Like most legal practices, they likely structure their fees based on the complexity and nature of the case, as well as the time and resources required. During this direct outreach, you should ask about initial consultation fees (if any), how legal fees are calculated for your specific type of case (e.g., hourly rates, flat fees, retainers), and what payment plans might be available. The firm's presence in Indianapolis means it operates within the Indiana legal system, handling cases under state and local jurisdiction, which is a fundamental aspect of suitability for locals seeking legal counsel in their home state.
However, suitability for locals ultimately hinges on individual needs and expectations, especially considering the mixed feedback provided by past clients. While one client expressed satisfaction and a willingness to recommend the firm, highlighting professionalism and good service, another presented a highly critical account, raising serious concerns about professionalism, communication, fairness in representation, and alleged racial bias. This latter review details accusations of disrespect, lack of diligent effort, delayed information regarding plea offers, failure to interview witnesses, and high charges for outcomes perceived as equivalent to a public defender, particularly for a client who is Black/African American and facing a "racist court" in Shelbyville.
For Indiana locals, these diverse experiences underscore the critical importance of due diligence. When selecting legal representation, it is essential to consider factors such as an attorney's communication style, their dedication to your specific case, transparency in fees, and their commitment to fighting for all clients without prejudice. While Alden & Clem is a local firm with a physical presence that offers legal services, prospective clients, especially those from underrepresented groups, should thoroughly research, ask probing questions during initial consultations, and seek references to ensure the firm's values and approach align with their personal requirements for trustworthy and effective advocacy. This comprehensive approach will empower locals to make the most informed decision possible for their unique legal situations.
