George Schraer and Arthur Martin are horrible attorneys. If you get either of these attorney then your appeal has a horrible chance of winning or getting overturned. After paying George Schraer $26,400 he destroys my son's opening brief, he said things that were not even in the transcripts, he made up stuff to make my son look horrible. Then after firing him, he goes to ADI and sucks more money from them, his buddy Arthur Martin let him do so. What nerve they have to do this. My son and I fired him then he goes to the Appeals court and said I owe him money, which was a lie, then he stays on my son's case in order to make sure there is no hope of any good coming from the appeal. I was going to sue him last year but I believe his wife passed away, hopefully I can still sue him if its not too late. They have good attorneys here but they are going to do what they are told by the case managers and director. Tangerine Risberg's review is dead on, with the exception of changing attorneys, I was able to convince the previous director to change my son's attorney since they gave him one that was working out of a judges office.... Private Attorney unfortunately are really the same as they almost all could care less about any appeal, they all take your money..... and do nothing for it. $225,000 after the cost of legal services including bail and my son go the most time possible.

Appellate Defenders Inc Introduce

Welcome, California residents! Navigating the legal landscape can be a complex and often overwhelming experience, especially when it comes to understanding your rights and options for legal recourse. This article aims to offer a clear, engaging, and informative overview of Appellate Defenders Inc., helping you understand their role and how they can be a valuable resource for individuals seeking legal assistance in California.

Appellate Defenders Inc. (ADI) is a non-profit law firm primarily focused on providing legal representation to indigent appellants in criminal cases in California. Their mission is to ensure that individuals who cannot afford legal counsel still have access to high-quality legal representation during the appellate process. This is a vital service, as the appeals process can be highly technical and requires specialized legal knowledge. ADI plays a critical role in upholding the principles of justice and ensuring fair legal proceedings for all, regardless of their financial circumstances. Their work is an essential part of the justice system in California, contributing to a more equitable legal environment for those facing criminal appeals.

Location and Accessibility

Appellate Defenders Inc. is conveniently located at 555 W Beech St # 300, San Diego, CA 92101, USA. This central San Diego location makes it relatively accessible for individuals within the greater San Diego area and beyond. Situated in the heart of the city, the office is within reach of various transportation options, including public transit. For those driving, the location's proximity to major roadways facilitates easier access. Being in downtown San Diego, there are often parking options available, though it's always advisable to check for specific parking regulations and availability in the area before your visit. The strategic placement of their office aims to maximize accessibility for clients who may be traveling from different parts of San Diego County or even from other regions of Southern California for their legal matters.

Services Offered

Appellate Defenders Inc. specializes in a critical area of law, providing essential services to those in need. Their primary focus is on:

  • Criminal Appeals Representation: ADI is dedicated to representing indigent clients in criminal appeals. This means they assist individuals who have been convicted of a crime and are seeking to appeal that conviction in a higher court. Their expertise covers a wide range of criminal cases, working to identify legal errors or injustices that may have occurred during the trial process.
  • Post-Conviction Relief: Beyond direct appeals, ADI may also assist with other forms of post-conviction relief, depending on the specifics of the case and their organizational mandate. This can include habeas corpus petitions or other legal avenues to challenge a conviction or sentence after the direct appeal process has concluded.
  • Legal Research and Brief Writing: A significant portion of appellate work involves extensive legal research and the meticulous drafting of legal briefs. ADI's attorneys are highly skilled in these areas, constructing compelling legal arguments supported by case law and statutes to advocate on behalf of their clients.
  • Client Advocacy and Support: While the legal work is paramount, ADI also focuses on providing comprehensive support to their clients throughout the often lengthy and challenging appellate process. This includes explaining complex legal procedures in an understandable manner and keeping clients informed about the progress of their case.

  • Professional and Compassionate Approach: Client feedback often emphasizes the professional and supportive nature of the staff. The positive review highlighting the "amazing" and "heaven-sent" attorney, as well as the "excellent" staff, underscores their commitment to not only legal excellence but also compassionate client interaction during difficult times.

Their service itself is a form of access to justice for those who would otherwise be unable to afford appellate legal representation. Their value lies in providing high-quality, often court-appointed, legal services to eligible individuals free of charge or at a significantly subsidized rate, depending on their funding and the specific case. Their primary "offer" is the provision of essential legal defense for those who qualify for their services based on financial need in criminal appeal cases.

I just stopped in.I was lookand I was just. Doing a little bit of regathering but stumbled across some of the comments. And not just that my experience.I have probably won the best attorneys that they could have Appointed and I was never disappointed with her work. She's a fighter.I had the pleasure of speaking with her boss.I haven't had no negative issues, but I was going through J.V case and The way they're really on top of everything. My experience, I cannot speak for others. But I can vouch during the time that I did have an attorney. I was going through so much purposely strangly beneath the average individual. I couldn't even get them to do the next part that they sure wanted ...but it is something I wish I could have odds were agaisnt and all lead up to never could make it make sense. . But the experience was overall good. The staff were excellent. There's no reason to sugar coat. They were great. I honestly felt like it was almost and was better than actually hiring an attorney. You don't get a chance to meet these people that bat for atleast not face to face believe I know and one had knows . The woman assigned Truly was and is amazing. Trust me, it was like all consolidated in 1 year it was the worst and just known couldn't come close to thinking why for what. Everything was going on. But they fought and kept it professional and did stick it in, stick it out and stuck through it. Very much ready for different county and city. This was 2018 or drag into 2019 so about that long ago 5 in half 6 years ago ... Honestly it was just one of those heaven sent. But the attorney I had she was amazing and Even today I can never say nothing bad about her Never had nothing negative to say on Mrs. J. She was just amazing Hands down. I fell as she was one of the best her boss's name Mrs. L I would say I remember she was just Very kind, very humble very down to earth. So they didn't a truly an amazing job. And stayed on top of everything and quick to respond to questions answers all of that did there job the right and intergity with vaule morals and just plain common sense. Rate 10 stars

This is where your case will be sent if you plan on appealing, and cannot afford your own attorney. Almost all attorneys will advise you to use this service but I advise you get a private lawyer. This company is directly appointed cases from the courts. Given cases means given money. They don't care about the lives behind the cases and they don't care about how the attorneys they hire treat you. To this company it is 100% acceptable to give you an attorney who will never visit you, never talk to you, and maybe write you once or twice. IF THEIR LIFE WAS ON THE LINE I DOUBT THIS WOULD BE ACCEPTABLE. If you wish to be informed in a respectable manner, HIRE YOUR OWN LAWYER! This company will do the maximum continuances allowed...which means an additional 6-8 months of your time wasted in prison. They don't care about your case, they view everyone as guilty and do not get involved with any of the cases. They will not let you switch attorneys for any reason. So if your current "court appointed" is not helping you, too bad. ADI Will not make it right.
