I was falsely accused of a violent crime this year. I had never been in trouble with the law before, so this was a very stressful situation for me. Mr Berns came recommended through a family friend. He helped resolve the issue in a very expeditious manner. His fees were quite reasonable (I consulted other attorneys as well). Most importantly, the professionalism and proficiency he exudes inspired in me a high level of confidence, which helped me get through the ordeal psychologically. After the case was dismissed, I still had my personal property to recover. Chicago police had seized several firearms and ammunition at the time of my arrest. I didn't think I would ever see these items again, at least not without a lawsuit, but Mr. Berns made this happen as well. Just a few brief hearings, and I found myself at the evidence storage facility with my property in hand. I would not hesitate to recommend Mr. Berns to anyone.

Based on the provided client review, Louis A. Berns appears to specialize in and has a proven track record in the following areas:

  • Criminal Defense: His expertise in this area is highlighted by the successful resolution of a case involving a false accusation of a violent crime. This suggests he handles:
    • Defense against various criminal charges, including violent crimes.
    • Guiding clients through the legal process from arrest to case dismissal.
    • Providing legal strategy and representation in court to protect clients' rights.
  • Personal Property Recovery from Law Enforcement: A unique and significant service highlighted in the review is the successful recovery of seized personal property (firearms and ammunition) from the Chicago Police Department. This indicates expertise in:
    • Navigating procedures for the return of seized items post-case dismissal.
    • Representing clients in hearings related to property recovery.
    • Understanding relevant laws and regulations concerning personal property seizures by law enforcement.
  • Legal Consultation and Representation for Unforeseen Legal Issues: While specific to criminal defense and property recovery in the given review, his role in helping someone who "had never been in trouble with the law before" suggests a broader capability to assist individuals facing unexpected and stressful legal situations, providing initial guidance and full representation.

It is important for prospective clients to note that while the positive review highlights specific areas of expertise, the negative review suggests potential issues with communication and client case management. Therefore, for the most precise and up-to-date information on the full scope of services offered by Louis A. Berns, it is always recommended to contact his office directly to discuss your individual legal needs and expectations.

Louis A. Berns' practice, as highlighted by client feedback, possesses several key features and highlights that are particularly valuable for those seeking legal assistance.

  • High Professionalism and Proficiency: One client explicitly praises Mr. Berns for the "professionalism and proficiency he exudes." This indicates a high standard of legal practice, where cases are handled with skill and adherence to ethical guidelines. For clients facing serious legal challenges, knowing their attorney is professional and proficient can build significant confidence.
  • Expeditious Resolution of Cases: The review notes that Mr. Berns "helped resolve the issue in a very expeditious manner." This suggests an ability to move cases forward efficiently, reducing the prolonged stress and uncertainty that legal proceedings often entail. This efficiency can be a major benefit for clients seeking swift and effective solutions.
  • Reasonable Fees: Compared to other attorneys consulted by one client, Mr. Berns' fees were found to be "quite reasonable." This indicates a commitment to fair pricing for legal services, making quality representation more accessible to individuals in the Illinois community.
  • Ability to Inspire Confidence: The psychological impact of legal troubles can be immense. The client's remark that Mr. Berns "inspired in me a high level of confidence, which helped me get through the ordeal psychologically," is a powerful highlight. This demonstrates an attorney who not only handles the legal aspects but also provides crucial emotional and mental support through his reassuring demeanor and competence.
  • Successful Property Recovery Expertise: A unique and impressive highlight is Mr. Berns' success in helping a client recover seized personal property, specifically firearms and ammunition, from law enforcement. This shows a specialized capability to navigate complex post-case recovery procedures, which many general practitioners might not possess.

However, it is crucial to also acknowledge the contrasting review that raises concerns about communication ("They do not contact you at all about your case no emails no phone calls") and case duration ("Been about 3-4 years already and they still have me pending on the case"). This suggests that while Mr. Berns has achieved positive outcomes and displays strong professional qualities for some, potential clients should directly address communication expectations and inquire about case timelines upfront to ensure alignment. The issue of referral to a physical therapist leading to debt is also a significant concern that prospective clients should be aware of and discuss thoroughly.

While specific, ongoing promotions or special offers are not detailed in the provided information, prospective clients interested in retaining Louis A. Berns' services are encouraged to contact his office directly to inquire about consultation fees and payment structures.

It is common practice for attorneys, especially in areas like criminal defense, to offer an initial consultation. This meeting typically serves as an opportunity for the attorney to assess the case, provide preliminary advice, and discuss the potential legal strategy and fee arrangements. Depending on the firm's policy, this initial consultation might be free or offered at a reduced rate.

During such a consultation, it would be prudent for prospective clients to clearly discuss:

  • The fee structure for their specific type of case (e.g., flat fee for criminal defense, hourly rates, or contingency for personal injury if applicable, though the provided reviews do not directly indicate personal injury as a primary focus).
  • Communication protocols and expectations regarding case updates.
  • Estimated timelines for case resolution, where possible.
  • Any referrals to third-party services (like medical professionals) and their associated financial implications.

By directly engaging with the office of Louis A. Berns, clients can get the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding their services and any potential financial arrangements.

Was referred to by others, but his service is very bad. They do not contact you at all about your case no emails no phone calls. Been about 3-4 years already and they still have me pending on the case. He also referred me to a physical therapist who said everything would be free until the case is solved, but now I’m 10,000$ in debt . I do not recommend this place at all.
