There are no words that accurately describe Brian Paul. I have had Brian represent me twice in legal battles with my ex wife. I quickly realized I had found one of the best attornies in the state and maybe even the country. It took time to truly develop an appreciation for his personal qualities. I have never met a person who showed me how much he cared about me as a human being. I was very angry about what my ex wife had done to me. Brian kept me on the "road" even when I began to veer off into an area of the case which was not our primary concern. I have had some very difficult days over the past 12 years. I always knew I had a true friend in Brian. My cases took every twist and turn possible. My own family hurt my chances both times. Brian is never disrespectful to anybody. He was always professional and I think he established a good working relationship with my ex wife's lawyer. Brian told me the first time we met in 2005 that he did not control the "human" part of the court system. Mistakes were made by "humans" that had a devestating impact on my cases. Each time Brian found a way to find a way to solve the problem. I was in two post divorce legal battles for a total of three years. The 1st was in 2005 to 2007. The second was in 2014. I would never have physically or emotionally survived either case if it wasn't for Brian. I know he cared a great deal about me. I know he will always care a great deal about me. He is both my friend and my attorney. In both cases I was under incredible pressure to make big decisions. Both cases ended with my ex wife agreeing to pay a settlement to me. She is a hard nosed human being who had a very competent attorney. Brian was able to get the upper hand legally and then leveraging that to negotiate a fair settlement for me. I learned that being a top attorney is how well you can write. If you can articulate your position in writing based on fact, the law and precedent cases better than your opponent you will have the best chance to prevail. In my situation negotiated settlements was the better option than going to trial. Both times my ex wife grudgingly accepted a settlement in my favor. Brian knew a settlement was in my best interests. But nobody was more prepared for the possibility of a trial. That is why he was able to get me fair settlements. I will offer this advice to anyone entering a court case. Your choice of attorney is the biggest factor you will make. Nothing comes close. I recommend you choose Brian or any lawyer at Szaferman and Lakind. At the end of each case I know he represented my best interests and explained my options to allow me to have confidence I made the right decision. Both times he made proposals that I know were as fair as possible to both sides considering the situation, facts of the case and the "human factor". My relationship with Brian and his firm of Szaferman and Lakind is as good as it can be. My health was in tough shape in 2014 and Brian and his firm did things to help me that showed what it means to be compassionate. I recommend anyone in any type of legal problem that they hire Szaferman and Lakind. Brian represent the values of the whole firm. They always work to protect your interests and working for the best outcome they can get for you. I owe my life to Brian and his firm. Legal battles are not always about winning and losing. In my case it was about life or death due to the mental illness I have. I am still here and Brian still takes time to not only help me with legal problems. He is the only person I trust to follow his advice with life problems. I consider it a miracle I found Brian Paul and Szaferman to represent me. When was the last time you heard anyone make that statement about their attorney. Nobody referred me to them. I found them using a Google search. What were my chances of finding an attorney who ultimately saved my life. Edmund Cyr August 12, 2017
