I had a horrible case brought against me and he was assigned to represent me. It was hell. I sat in jail for 11 months and talked to him maybe a total of 10 minutes. He did not answer my calls, did not communicate, and sent me letters telling me I should take a plea for 7 years. He put no effort forth and did nothing to fight for me. I finally got bailed out, did some research, found out he was 100% biased in the case. Thank God he withdrew himself because I got another attorney who actually put work into the case and I didn't do 7 years. I took a plea for time served. Because the prosecution knew the case was crap and if Chitwood would have done his job from the get go, he would have seen that too. I feel sorry for anyone who ends up with him as an attorney. If you do, be ready for zero communication and getting a plea deal forced down your throat, even if you are innocent of the charges brought against you. If you got a small case that's an easy open close case, he will do alright. If you are trying to fight for your life and need someone to defend you, pray to God you do not end up with John Chitwood.
