I hired this firm for an eviction and paid $1250 to start the process. My case was interesting since I had Just purchased a home. The seller did not want to vacate. Bob took my case and we started the process. He drafted some letters and then the seller vacated so we did not have to do anything further. Basically the forms were prepared & I paid Them $1250. So I asked Them to help me with the collection of the funds that the prior seller owes me. Ilene took over. She asked for documents and then asked for a $250 check. I sent It. She looked it over and said she could not take the case because she needs a forwarding address and a social for the prior seller. I know I can obtain It but it’s not on any of the sales documents which she knew. This is the most stressful process for me and all I wanted was a helpful attorney to assist with a collection. I work Hard and take care my family so I invested $1250 plus $250 to at least recover some funds I lost Through this brutal process. They walked away from me. A firm that I thought Was amazing just walked away. I could tell that Ilene didn’t want to take the case. I never got upset but instead I said Thanks!

Their location in Brooklyn provides accessibility for local residents seeking legal counsel.

When searching for a lawyer through a service like "Lawyers Near Me," local presence is often a key consideration. Cohen Hurkin Ehrenfeld's location in Brooklyn makes them a potentially convenient option for individuals and businesses within the borough seeking legal representation. Having a local firm can facilitate in-person meetings and a better understanding of the local legal landscape, although the extent of their local focus is not specified in the provided information.

Information regarding the specific environment of Cohen Hurkin Ehrenfeld is not detailed online beyond their address. However, as a professional law firm, one can generally expect a setting conducive to legal consultation and work. This typically includes a reception area for clients, private offices or meeting rooms for confidential discussions, and the necessary infrastructure for legal research and document preparation. The overall atmosphere would likely be professional and organized to facilitate effective legal service.

Based on the single client review provided, we can glean some information about the services potentially offered by Cohen Hurkin Ehrenfeld:

  • Eviction Law: The review explicitly mentions the firm being hired for an eviction case. This suggests that Cohen Hurkin Ehrenfeld provides legal services to landlords or new property owners seeking to evict occupants. Their involvement in drafting letters for this purpose indicates their capability in initiating the eviction process.
  • Real Estate Law (Related to Property Purchase): The case involved the purchase of a home where the seller did not want to vacate. This implies that the firm may handle legal issues arising from real estate transactions, particularly those involving occupancy disputes.
  • Debt Collection: The client attempted to engage the firm for the collection of funds owed by the prior seller. While the firm ultimately did not take on this aspect of the case, it suggests that debt collection might be an area they handle under different circumstances.

From the single client review, we can also observe some features of the firm's practice:

  • Initial Consultation and Fee: The firm charged a $1250 initial fee to start the eviction process, indicating their fee structure involves upfront payments for initiating legal action.
  • Case-Specific Assessment: The firm, through attorney Ilene, assessed the collection case and declined to proceed based on specific requirements (forwarding address and social security number of the debtor) that the client could not immediately provide from the sales documents. This suggests a level of selectivity in the cases they take on.
  • Communication and Information Gathering: Ilene requested documents and a $250 check for the collection case, indicating a standard process of information gathering and initial assessment that may involve a preliminary fee.
  • Transparency (in declining the case): While the client was disappointed, the firm did communicate their reasons for not being able to take the collection case based on the missing information.

The single client review, while providing some insight into the firm's handling of an eviction case and their assessment of a collection matter, does not offer overwhelmingly positive promotional information. The client expresses disappointment at the firm's decision not to pursue the collection of funds, especially after having paid initial fees for the eviction process. The review highlights a situation where the client felt the firm "walked away" despite their investment in seeking legal assistance. While the initial eviction process was started, the lack of follow-through on the subsequent collection issue, from the client's perspective, overshadows any positive aspects. Therefore, based solely on this review, it is difficult to present strong promotional points. Instead, the review serves as a factual account of one client's experience, indicating the firm's processes and decision-making under specific circumstances.

For local users in Brooklyn considering Cohen Hurkin Ehrenfeld for legal services, particularly in eviction or real estate matters, the provided review offers a specific account of one client's experience. While the initial handling of the eviction case led to the desired outcome (seller vacating), the subsequent interaction regarding debt collection resulted in the firm declining to take the case due to missing information. Potential clients may want to inquire specifically about the firm's policies on case assessment, required information, and the scope of services offered, especially in related matters that may arise from an initial legal engagement. Contacting Cohen Hurkin Ehrenfeld directly at (718) 596-9000 or +1 718-596-9000 would allow local users to discuss their specific legal needs and understand the firm's approach to handling cases similar to their own. It is important for potential clients to have a clear understanding of the firm's processes, fees, and the information required to proceed with their legal matters.
