Called to do an intake over the phone and to my surprise they took into account our home value off of Zillow!! Completely despicable!! Of course they didn’t qualify me!! The value of a home is estimated by a professional evaluation done by a home appraisal with an inspector!! They want people to use their home to take money and get legal representation and get in debt!! They’re a complete joke of an organization. Don’t bother or waste your time!! What a waste of a non-profit organization!!
Access to legal representation is a fundamental right, yet for many low-income individuals and seniors across Colorado, obtaining quality legal assistance can be an insurmountable hurdle. Navigating complex civil legal issues – from housing disputes and family matters to public benefits and consumer protection – often requires professional guidance that can be financially out of reach. This is where Colorado Legal Services (CLS) steps in as a vital resource, dedicated to bridging the justice gap for vulnerable populations throughout the state.
Colorado Legal Services is Colorado's statewide nonprofit legal aid program, established to provide free civil legal assistance to those who cannot afford it. Since its consolidation from several separate legal aid organizations in 1999, CLS has been committed to ensuring meaningful access to high-quality legal services. Their mission is to empower low-income persons and members of vulnerable populations to enforce and defend their legal rights, particularly concerning basic human needs like shelter, safety, food, health, and income. With 13 offices spread across Colorado, CLS offers a broad spectrum of assistance, ranging from legal advice and brief services to full representation, depending on individual client needs and the organization's resources. For Coloradans facing civil legal challenges without the means to secure private counsel, Colorado Legal Services stands as a critical pillar of support, striving to achieve justice for thousands of individuals each year.

Colorado Legal Services distinguishes itself through several key features and highlights that underscore its mission and impact within the Colorado community.
Nonprofit Legal Aid Program: CLS is Colorado's largest and only statewide nonprofit civil legal aid program, serving low-income individuals and seniors who otherwise would not be able to afford legal representation. This core mission is fundamental to their operation.
Broad Scope of Civil Legal Issues: Unlike firms that specialize in a few areas, CLS addresses a wide array of civil legal problems that directly affect basic human needs, including housing, family safety, income, and health. This comprehensive approach serves diverse needs within the vulnerable population.
Extensive Statewide Reach: With 13 offices across Colorado, CLS ensures that legal assistance is available in urban, suburban, and rural areas, making vital services accessible to a wider demographic of eligible individuals.
Experienced and Dedicated Staff: While individual experiences may vary, reviews highlight specific attorneys like Michelle who are "thorough with questions and helping me figure out what we need for my case." This suggests dedicated professionals committed to guiding clients.
Focus on Vulnerable Populations: CLS specifically targets low-income individuals and seniors. For those 60 years and older, they may provide help regardless of income if the legal problem aligns with CLS priorities, showcasing a commitment to protecting the rights of the elderly.
Multiple Levels of Assistance: Depending on client needs and organizational resources, CLS can provide legal advice, brief services, or full representation. This flexibility ensures that assistance is tailored to the severity and complexity of each case.
Language Accessibility: Services are provided in a client's primary language, which is crucial for Colorado's diverse population, ensuring effective communication and understanding of legal processes.
Community Partnerships: In instances where CLS cannot provide full representation due to resource limitations, they refer cases to clinics or other agencies, including Metro Volunteer Lawyers (MVL), which utilizes private attorneys on a pro bono or reduced-rate basis. This collaborative approach expands access to justice.
As a nonprofit legal aid organization, Colorado Legal Services does not offer traditional "promotions" or "special offers" in the commercial sense. Their core mission is to provide free civil legal assistance to eligible low-income individuals and seniors.
However, their key offering, which can be seen as a perpetual "special offer" for their target demographic, is:
Free Legal Assistance: CLS provides free legal advice, brief services, or full representation to qualifying individuals and seniors. Eligibility is based on federal poverty guidelines for most individuals, and for seniors (60 years and older), some services may be available regardless of income if they fall within CLS priorities and resources permit.
Free Intake Process: Individuals can initiate the process by calling, walking in (where applicable, confirm hours), or completing an online application at applyonlinecls.org to determine their eligibility for services. This initial step is free of charge.
It is important for prospective clients to understand the specific eligibility requirements, which include income and asset reviews, and to know that while CLS strives to help as many as possible, resources are limited. Therefore, even if eligible, CLS may not always be able to accept every case. Contacting them directly is the best way to understand current availability and specific qualifications.

For Colorado locals, Colorado Legal Services is an indispensable resource, particularly for those who face economic barriers to justice. Its suitability for residents stems from its core mission: providing free civil legal assistance to low-income individuals and seniors across the state. This directly addresses the critical need for legal representation in matters concerning basic human rights and essential services.

This is a common practice for legal aid organizations funded by public and private sources. The positive feedback for individuals like Michelle, who are noted for their thoroughness and assistance with complex issues like Social Security overpayments and Medicaid denials, showcases the vital impact CLS attorneys have on real lives. May 01, 2025 · Nicole GonzalezPerson who answered the phone was unwilling to hear about my situation and cut me off several times. They didn’t understand the law for guardianship and how Colorado Law actually works for guardianship. They seemed lazy and they were very rude. I wouldn’t recommend even contact them. It’s a waste of time.
