Cordell cost me thousands of dollars and then I had to pay a different attorney to clean up their mess. Kathleen didn't know basic elements of Colorado family law and charged me to do "research" after she created an embarrassing situation with opposing counsel. She made several errors with simple calculations (e.g. the numerical difference between bi-weekly and semi-monthly) and had to be corrected by the mediator and opposing counsel. Eventually it became clear that she'd completely lost control of my case and began seeking direction from opposing counsel. The motion she wrote was a mess and had to be completely re-written. What's worse, I noticed early on that they relentlessly inflate the billable hours with reports that aren't helpful or requested. The legal counsel I received felt like paying a grad student to write essays and learn through trial and error. My case was simple and Kathleen made it into a costly nightmare. Fortunately, I found a very good attorney to replace Kathleen and things have gone much better since. Having to fire an attorney and find a replacement 6 weeks Before trial is not fun. Trust me, you don't want to learn this the hard way. Find a better law firm.

While the firm is part of a larger national network, it is crucial for local users in Colorado Springs seeking divorce representation to carefully consider recent feedback regarding the services provided by this specific office.
The office is situated in a unit within a building on South Tejon Street, suggesting a standard professional office environment in a commercial area of Colorado Springs. Potential clients might expect a typical setup for legal consultations and case management. However, it is important to note that the provided reviews do not offer positive insights into the operational efficiency or client experience within this particular Colorado Springs location.
Cordell & Cordell - Divorce Attorney Office markets itself as a firm focused on divorce law. Based on their national presence, they likely offer a range of services related to the dissolution of marriage, which could include:
However, the features and quality of these services, as experienced by recent clients in the Colorado Springs office, raise significant concerns. The provided reviews paint a concerning picture of the firm's performance in this specific location. One client reported incurring substantial costs only to have to hire another attorney to rectify what they described as a "mess" created by Cordell & Cordell. This client specifically criticized an attorney named Kathleen for a lack of basic knowledge of Colorado family law, leading to unnecessary research charges and an "embarrassing situation" with opposing counsel. The review also mentions errors in simple calculations that had to be corrected by the mediator and opposing counsel, ultimately leading to the client feeling that the attorney had lost control of the case and was seeking direction from the opposing side. The motion drafted was deemed inadequate and required a complete rewrite by subsequent counsel.
Furthermore, this client expressed serious concerns about what they perceived as a pattern of "relentlessly inflating the billable hours" with reports that were neither helpful nor requested. The legal counsel received was likened to "paying a grad student to write essays and learn through trial and error," suggesting a lack of experienced and efficient representation. The client concluded that a simple case was turned into a "costly nightmare" and strongly advised others to "Find a better law firm," emphasizing the negative experience of having to fire an attorney shortly before trial.
Another review echoed similar negative experiences, awarding the firm a single star only because zero was not an option. This client hired a "Lead Attorney," Christine Dolan, at a higher hourly rate with the expectation of superior service, but was severely disappointed. Even attempts to involve a "Senior Litigation attorney," Kevin Stoner, by phone and email were reportedly ignored. This client claimed to have spent $40,000 within a month, only to hire another attorney from a different firm to undo the mistakes made by Cordell & Cordell. This move was described as "the best decision I could have made."
Interestingly, this reviewer noted positive experiences with Cordell & Cordell in another state, suggesting that the issues might be isolated to the Colorado Springs office. An attempt by a client care representative to address the concerns reportedly resulted in further disappointment, with the firm allegedly justifying their actions rather than admitting any wrongdoing. The reviewer sarcastically suggested that "a circus clown would be better equipped to handle your legal issues than this office would," highlighting the extreme dissatisfaction with the services received.
Given these two detailed and highly critical reviews from different clients, it is challenging to present any positive promotional information for the Cordell & Cordell - Divorce Attorney Office in Colorado Springs based solely on this available feedback. The recurring themes of incompetence, billing issues, lack of communication, and the need to hire replacement counsel to correct errors serve as significant red flags for potential local users.
Therefore, in providing an objective introduction based on the available online information, it is crucial for individuals in Colorado Springs seeking divorce attorneys through platforms listing "Lawyers Near Me" to be aware of these recent negative experiences with Cordell & Cordell's local office. While the firm may have a broader positive reputation in other locations, the feedback specific to the Colorado Springs office raises serious concerns about the quality of legal services, billing practices, and overall client experience. Potential clients should weigh this information carefully when making their decision and may want to seek further information or consider alternative legal representation options in the area to ensure their divorce or family law matters are handled competently and effectively.
It is important to note that these reviews represent individual experiences and may not be representative of every client's interaction with the firm. However, the consistency and severity of the issues raised warrant careful consideration by anyone contemplating hiring Cordell & Cordell's Colorado Springs office for their legal needs. Local users are advised to conduct thorough due diligence and potentially seek additional references or consultations before making a decision.

Jun 26, 2024 · John Rockey1 star because 0 isn’t an option. I hired a “Lead Attorney,” Christine Dolan, at $50 more per hour than others assuming she would be better. I guess you don’t always get what you pay for. Even the “Senior Litigation attorney,” Kevin stoner would not return any of the 3 calls or emails to him pleading to contact me to oversee this. 1 month and $40,000 later I hired another attorney with a different firm to undo her mistakes. Making that move was the best decision I could have made as it has worked out better than I could have imagined. Unfortunately, it seems to be isolated to the Colorado Springs office, I have representation with Cordell and Cordell in another state and they have been fantastic. Even when a client care representative contacted me in attempt to make things right I was let down again. They argued that they were justified in their actions which I should have expected, do you think a law firm would admit they were wrong as opposed to arguing? You’d have better luck getting blood out of a stone. I just wished they argued as hard for me while in court. I have no doubt in my mind that a circus clown would be better equipped to handle your legal issues than this office would.
Mar 21, 2024 · Matt EddingtonWorse than Worthless! When I approached Cordell and Cordell I had been married one year with my wife wanting $50k. After being billed a year with them, I ended up having to shell out over $120k. I had expected Cordell and Cordell to review my case and provide legal counsel on the best approach in obtaining a fair settlement. They provided nothing of the sort. Their focus seemed more on billable hours. Just because you are paying them doesn't mean they have your best interest in mind. The assigned attorney, Kevin Stoner, proved to be completely useless.
Sep 20, 2023 · Jim SandersBeware of this law firm! My first attorney left the firm without warning a week after filing. I wish I had followed him! I was then assigned Kevin Stoner. He was absolutely worthless. He did not listen to anything I had to say. Nor did he address any of my concerns. There was very little helpful advice given, even after I was assaulted three times by my now ex-wife. In the end, the divorce was finalized, even though the type of "advocacy" and pass-through legal work to the tune of about $30000. Highly recommend going elsewhere for your legal needs!
Jun 30, 2022 · MarkWorking with Kathleen Begley was an awesome experience. She won my divorce for me outright. She did this after taking up my case in the late stages and dealing with a completely uncooperative former spouse. I couldn't have asked for better and couldn't be happier with the results she got me. 10/10
