The "Lawyers Near Me" platform serves as a vital resource for individuals seeking legal assistance in their local communities. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview of Craig Watkins Attorney At Law, situated in Dallas, Texas. It is crucial to begin by addressing a significant piece of information: Mr. Craig Watkins, the attorney associated with this practice, passed away on December 12, 2023. This information is paramount for anyone considering engaging with or currently having an ongoing case with this firm. This introduction will detail the firm's historical context, its location, the services it reportedly offered, its perceived features, and relevant public information, including client feedback.
Craig Watkins Attorney At Law was located at 2531 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Dallas, TX 75215, USA. This address places the firm in a community-centric area of South Dallas, signifying a practice that aimed to be accessible to a broad range of local clients. The environment of such a practice, particularly in a community setting, would typically foster a sense of approachability and local understanding, catering to the specific legal needs and concerns of the Dallas populace. The physical presence in this location underscored a commitment to serving the community, which was consistent with Mr. Watkins' public service background as a former District Attorney.
Historically, Craig Watkins Attorney At Law focused primarily on criminal defense and personal injury cases. Prior to establishing his private practice, Craig Watkins gained significant recognition as the District Attorney for Dallas County, serving from 2007 to 2015. During his tenure as DA, he became nationally known for his innovative "Smart on Crime" approach, which included creating the first Conviction Integrity Unit in the nation. This unit was instrumental in exonerating numerous wrongfully convicted individuals through DNA testing and reviewing evidence that had been improperly withheld. This background suggested a deep understanding of the criminal justice system from both a prosecutorial and defense perspective. In his private practice, he applied this extensive experience to represent individuals facing criminal charges, from misdemeanors to more serious federal crimes. His work in personal injury aimed to assist individuals who had suffered harm due to the negligence of others, helping them navigate complex legal processes to seek compensation.
The features that defined Craig Watkins as an attorney, both in public office and private practice, were multifaceted. His tenure as District Attorney marked him as a trailblazer, being the first elected African-American District Attorney in Texas. His commitment to justice, as evidenced by his work on wrongful convictions, earned him widespread praise and a reputation as someone willing to challenge the status quo to ensure fairness within the legal system. He was recognized by publications such as Governing Magazine as a "Public Official of the Year" and by The Dallas Morning News as "Texan of the Year" in 2008 for his efforts in criminal justice reform. Clients and colleagues often described him as a "great person" and someone who "listened." His previous public roles positioned him as an experienced and influential figure in the Dallas legal landscape.
However, it is imperative to present a balanced view, especially concerning the current status of the practice following Mr. Watkins' passing. Promotional information, traditionally, would highlight an attorney's accessibility and responsiveness. The provided client reviews, unfortunately, indicate significant challenges after Mr. Watkins' death.
One review states, "Mr. Watkins is a great person and listened. now that he's no longer with us who's handling my son case I've paid 40k I've sent emails, called and still haven't heard anything I'm asking please give my money back are I will move forward. This not right please say something." This review highlights a critical concern for former and current clients: the continuity of legal representation and the handling of ongoing cases and financial matters following the attorney's demise. The lack of communication and response is a serious issue for clients who have invested significant financial resources and trust in the firm.
Another review further elaborates on prior issues and the current predicament: "I had posted a bad review of Mr. Watkins a while back, and now I'm to post it back up because Mr. Watkins took my money and didn't even file anything on my behalf. He kept telling me that he had filed this and that, but when I asked to meet with him and look over the paperwork, he would always have a court date and wasn't available. Now I can't even get anyone to respond to emails or phone calls regarding my case or a refund. I do plan to take it to the media and get other legal advice to recover all the money I paid." This review suggests pre-existing concerns about case management and communication, which have been exacerbated by the attorney's passing. The inability to get responses regarding cases or refunds is a severe problem for clients seeking resolution and accountability.
These reviews indicate that while Craig Watkins had a notable public career and was perceived by some as a good listener and person, the operational aspects of his private practice, particularly after his passing, have presented significant challenges for clients. The lack of communication and perceived failure to file necessary paperwork, alongside the difficulties in obtaining refunds or information about ongoing cases, are serious concerns that prospective and existing clients on the "Lawyers Near Me" platform must be aware of.
Given the unfortunate circumstance of Mr. Watkins' passing, individuals seeking legal services through "Lawyers Near Me" who might consider this firm or who were clients of it, should be aware that the practice's operations would likely be significantly impacted. The contact numbers provided, (214) 428-7799 and +1 214-428-7799, may or may not be actively managed in a way that provides continuity of service or addresses past client issues. It is highly advisable for anyone with existing cases or financial claims related to Craig Watkins Attorney At Law to seek immediate independent legal counsel to understand their rights and explore avenues for case resolution or recovery of funds. The State Bar of Texas typically has procedures for handling cases when an attorney passes away, and clients may need to contact them for guidance on accessing their case files or seeking assistance.
In summary, while Craig Watkins had a distinguished career as a public servant and a commitment to justice, particularly in criminal reform, the information available indicates significant concerns regarding the management and continuation of his private practice, particularly in the aftermath of his death. For users of the "Lawyers Near Me" platform, this objective introduction serves as a crucial heads-up regarding the status and potential issues associated with this particular legal entity.

May 14, 2024 · Ruben TovarMr. Craig Watkins is the best attorney in the DFW! Very professional, patient, knowledgeable and trustworthy. Just know when you're in a situation and need an attorney, you can't rush or think it's going to be over fast. Thanks to Mr. Watkins and Mrs. Williams for all the hardwork!
Aug 24, 2023 · Jameka MarshallI was wrongfully convicted for a crime I didn't commit and he ask for 15k up front. I am giving him 2 stars for just listening, but he was a prosecutor in Dallas & knows there are a ton of cases in which innocent black boys were wrongfully convicted coming out of Dallas County practicing systematic racism. ( NO MORE TALK)!
Oct 06, 2023 · LaMaur Uncle Lo ColeIn February 2022 I did a consultation with Craig Watkins. Because his prices was out of the budget . Craig Watkins referred me to Reggie London at London and London Law firm . This attorney was unethical, inexperienced, deceitful, cunning, manipulative, showed lack of dedication and compassion, , disorganized and unprepared. The attorney done nothing but lied to me. The Attorney Reggie London extorting me out my money I terminated him but he did not do all the work our contract agreed on. He refuse to reimburse the unearned money because he taking it personal i terminated him. He assigned a lawyer Tim Lacy on my case I never met but one time in didn't know in six months Reggie London had him down as my retained attorney when Reggie lied to me and said because Craig Watkins referred me he was personally taking my case. Referral are supposed to be respected but Reggie London didn't respect your referral that's a real disrespect. Do not refer anyone to London and London Law firm because the firm is unorganized.
