I'm sure all law firms have their issues but please do not waste your time or money here. A year later and I'm still dealing with consequences of hiring this place. My custody paperwork was so poorly written that every other attorney that has looked at it since thought I represented myself but that opposing counsel had representation. We both had lawyers and unfortunately it really comes down to who has the better attorney. The general consensus from other local attorneys seems to be to avoid this place. Honestly, I might have been better off representing myself. Now, I get to pay 3-10k to have an agreement fixed that should have been written well the first time. The attorney I worked with seemed unorganized, and more worried about other cases which he was discussing at the court house while we should have been discussing my case. They lost 3 paralegals during my case and it was clear that when they hired a new one they weren't brought up to speed before coming onto the case. It was like starting from scratch each time. I'm grateful for the paralegals I had because they were kind and really trying but they collectively seemed to be handling more than the average paralegals. There were several times that the previous paralegal didn't email me something I was supposed to receive but the new paralegal thought it was done already. I had to find out from my ex that our divorce was finalized.
For individuals and families in Riverside, California, and the broader Southern California region navigating the complexities of family law, Edgar & Dow operates within the "Lawyers Near Me" platform category. This firm is dedicated to providing legal services primarily focused on family-related legal matters, aiming to guide clients through what can often be stressful and emotionally challenging periods.
Edgar & Dow is located at 3895 12th St, Riverside, CA 92501, USA. This address places the firm in a central and accessible area of Riverside. While specific details about the interior environment of the office are not provided in the given information, a law office specializing in family law typically strives to create a professional yet empathetic atmosphere. Clients dealing with divorce, child custody, or other sensitive family issues often require a discreet and comfortable setting where they can openly discuss their concerns. It is reasonable to infer that Edgar & Dow maintains an environment that aims to facilitate confidential discussions and provide a supportive space for clients during difficult life transitions. However, without direct observational details, a comprehensive description of the office ambiance cannot be objectively provided beyond these general expectations.
The primary services offered by Edgar & Dow are concentrated within the expansive field of family law. Their website and client testimonials indicate a strong focus on matters related to divorce and its associated complexities. Key services provided by the firm typically include:
The firm emphasizes a "custom tailored approach" to each unique family law matter, understanding that every family and case presents distinct challenges. They aim to achieve effective solutions that resolve issues as quickly as possible, often seeking to settle cases out of court to minimize client stress and costs, while also being prepared for trial when necessary.
The features of Edgar & Dow, as presented through client reviews, reflect both strengths and areas where clients have experienced difficulties. One positive feature highlighted is the dedication and effectiveness of certain attorneys within the firm, specifically "Attorney Bill." This attorney is praised for being "excellent," having "good communication with their office staff," and being "willing to go above and beyond to ensure that your rights are preserved." The review emphasizes his willingness to "investigate anything that seems off" and his crucial role in securing favorable outcomes, preventing an undeserved granting of rights to an opposing party. This suggests that at least some attorneys within the firm possess strong advocacy skills and a commitment to protecting their clients' interests vigorously. Other positive feedback from external sources (found via search) also mentions the firm's attorneys as "knowledgeable," "professional," and "well-respected in the court systems," indicating a strong understanding of family law and effective courtroom presence for some of their legal professionals. The firm also states they have "decades of collective experience in CA Divorce Law."
However, the provided reviews also highlight significant areas of concern. One critical review describes the firm as "extremely overpriced and horrible to get a hold of." This suggests potential issues with affordability and, more importantly, with responsiveness and client communication, which are vital in legal representation. The client's experience of "trying to pull teeth" to schedule a consultation and the firm being "unorganized" raises questions about efficiency and client service. The review also points to issues with the quality of legal work, specifically that "custody paperwork was so poorly written that every other attorney that has looked at it since thought I represented myself." This directly impacts the effectiveness of the legal outcome and necessitated further expenses for the client to "fix" the agreement. The high turnover of paralegals and the lack of proper onboarding for new staff members, leading to situations where information was lost or not relayed to the client (e.g., finding out about divorce finalization from an ex), indicate systemic issues with internal organization and continuity of client care. The consensus from "other local attorneys seems to be to avoid this place" is a significant red flag, suggesting a broader perception of the firm's operational issues within the legal community.
In terms of promotional information, Edgar & Dow actively promotes their specialization in family law and their commitment to client advocacy. Their website highlights their experience since 2004, focusing solely on divorce and family law. They offer a "Free Consultation" and mention the availability of "Payment plans and financing options," aiming to make their services accessible. They promote their "tailored approach" to each case, aiming for "low-stress" and "low-risk" resolutions by trying to settle cases out of court while being prepared for trial. The firm also emphasizes "honesty and integrity" and "results-driven counsel." While their promotional materials and some testimonials speak to their strengths in family law and their commitment to client success, the negative review provided suggests that experiences may vary significantly regarding communication, organizational efficiency, and the quality of initial legal documentation.
In conclusion, Edgar & Dow, located in Riverside, CA, within the "Lawyers Near Me" category, specializes in comprehensive family law services, including divorce, child custody, child support, and property division. The firm aims to provide tailored and effective legal solutions with a focus on client advocacy. While there are positive testimonials praising the dedication and results achieved by specific attorneys, particularly "Attorney Bill," significant concerns have been raised by other clients regarding the firm's communication, organization, responsiveness, and the quality of initial legal drafting, leading to additional costs and stress. Prospective clients are advised to conduct thorough due diligence, including a detailed consultation, to ascertain if the firm's approach aligns with their expectations and specific needs.

Dec 25, 2024 · Cherish JonesExcellent attorney, good communication with their office staff and willing to go above and beyond to ensure that your rights are preserved and they will investigate anything that seems off! Thank you Attorney Bill for all that you have done because without you, the court would have given total rights to a man who did not deserve those rights!!! Anyone reading this, do not hesitate to hire Attorney Bill, he will not let you down!
Jan 31, 2025 · Christine PiddingtonVery disappointed with Amanda. Was really excited and hopeful I picked the right office. But that quickly changed. Amanda was suppose to have a letter for me in the beginning of January. I left a message for her all I got was an email with an attachment of the letter. A letter that wasn't even close to what we discuss in our meeting. I received a second letter which needed one correction and still have not heard from her. John Cannon hasn't even contacted me to see how my case is going. I'm afraid how much I will be charged for making that call. I was charges for changing my appointment time. 1200 dollars wasted. I do not want to work with Amanda. I don't think I should be charge for your mistakes. I had contacted the office to let them know to go ahead and file for divorce. This was a while back. I was told that they do not handle L.A. county. They had no problem taking my $$ . It's a very long story. I do not trust this lawyer.
Mar 11, 2025 · R MI am writing this review from an honest and heartfelt position…with that being said I hired this firm and associates in the beginning of this year due to a custody situation and case of parental alienation from my ex… let me first start off with if you are fighting a case of PA save your money…if your child is being manipulated and made to lie and has at this point “turned against you” save your money and wait for them to be an adult and realize what the other parent has cost them… with that being said I would like to first and foremost thank Lynette from this office who truly seemed 100% committed to presenting, working and taking my case as her own….that is the only thank you I can give… my case was first given to a Kristin who sent me over paperwork to sign and it was not paperwork (my initial “why I was filing”) I called her and notified her of her error and was still charged for that call at almost 175$ being deducted from my retainer fee…. I was switched to multiple people multiple times o get it but always being charged for someone to “look” at my papers…. With my case and situation I presented so much proof…and showed time lines from teachers, drs, emails from father proving a history of parental alienation, a personal statement from my son to DCFS regarding his relationship with me (fathers gf was being investigated for a physical altercation she had with his 2 older sisters) 4 letters written from different people who knew me as a parent saw my interaction with my son etc…. Prior to meditation meeting I was notified by a representative Kayla to submit the actual emails and contact information of all parties so that they could be sent a “swearing under oath” so that those letters would not just be an exhibit but now a testimony under oath…I did and also informed her that all parties has given all that information in the statements….when I went to mediation nothing had been submitted nor had they ever sent off those email request as stated they would… nor did they send in any of all the documents from DCFS or teachers or the Counselor….nor was the mediator aware I had an attorney….On the occasions when I did speak to a representative (prior to Lynette) information wasn’t accurate. I am not angry or bitter at how the outcome of my case went Parental Alienation is a losing game…I paid all my dues even the amount owed after the retainer fees. I didn’t even complain about being charged for 2 of their employees errors. With all this being said I truly feel like there are better options out there for hiring an attorney. Just with how it was all handled. The process.
Oct 29, 2023 · Sarah MarieIt's fair to say if you're coming into your case without the right intentions or not seeking what is truly best for your child/children then this isn't the right company for you. We were told up front what was the realistic outcome. We were also told whether we liked or or not what was fair for our son. We fought only for what was our right and that's what we got and some. The process and wait was a bit anxious but Mr. Edgar knew what we needed and at the end of the day handle our case very well. God forbid we need to go to court again but if needed we will definitely come back.
