I had a $250 initial consultation with Deryn Sumner on 04/23/25. I explained my employment situation and was given strategies for how it could be handled and a price for each strategy. I was told that I'd be emailed a summary of the strategies and prices after our call. And to reach out with any follow-up questions I had. I followed up with a question a day later. No reply. On 4/28/25 I emailed and said I was interested in her flat fee strategy. And to let me know if she was interested in the case. No reply. I left her in-take person a voicemail on 5/2/25 asking for an update. No call back. It's been over a month since my initial consultation and I was completely ghosted. If you're a bargaining unit federal employee just join your union and have them help you. This law firm will take your money and never reply again.

Here are some of the key services you can expect from Gilbert Employment Law, P.C.:

  • Initial Consultations: As indicated by the client reviews, the firm offers initial consultations (e.g., $250 or $395 fee) where clients can explain their employment situation and receive preliminary strategies and pricing options for potential legal action.
  • Employment Dispute Strategies: Providing clients with various legal strategies for handling their employment situations, which could include issues like wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wage disputes.
  • Representation for Federal Employees: One review specifically advises federal employees to join their union, implying that the firm may also cater to or advise federal employees, given the complexities of federal employment law.
  • Legal Advice on Workplace Issues: Offering guidance on employee rights, employer obligations, and applicable labor laws relevant to Maryland.
  • Case Evaluation and Assessment: Assessing the viability of a client's case and determining the best course of action, including whether the firm will take on the representation.
  • Potential for Flat Fee Arrangements: One client mentioned being interested in a "flat fee strategy," suggesting that the firm may offer different pricing models depending on the service.

It is important for potential clients to clarify the specific services offered and the firm's commitment to taking on a case after an initial consultation, as highlighted by the review experiences.

Gilbert Employment Law, P.C. aims to provide professional legal services in the field of employment law. Based on the provided client feedback, certain aspects of their operation stand out, though with mixed experiences.

  • Specialization in Employment Law: The firm's name explicitly states its focus on "Employment Law," indicating a specialized practice area. This specialization suggests a concentrated knowledge base in workplace legal issues.
  • Initial Consultation Offerings: The firm clearly provides structured initial consultations where clients can discuss their situation and learn about potential legal strategies and associated costs. This is a common and valuable service for individuals seeking legal advice.
  • Willingness to Issue Refunds: A notable highlight, as per one updated review, is the "timely response to my complaint and the quick issuing of my refund in full." This demonstrates a mechanism for addressing client dissatisfaction and a commitment to resolving financial disputes when services do not proceed as expected.
  • Experienced Attorneys (e.g., Deryn Sumner, Mr. Lewis): The reviews mention specific attorneys, indicating a team of legal professionals available for consultations and case handling within the firm.

However, it is crucial to present a balanced view based on the comprehensive feedback. The primary concern highlighted in both detailed reviews is a lack of consistent communication and follow-up after the initial consultation, leading to clients feeling "ghosted" and unable to get a clear decision on their case. While the refund process was efficient in one instance, the initial communication breakdown is a significant point of consideration for prospective clients.

Therefore, while the firm specializes in an important area of law and offers initial consultations, potential clients should prioritize clear communication regarding follow-up procedures and expectations after their initial payment and discussion.

Based on the provided customer reviews, Gilbert Employment Law, P.C. has a clear and established fee structure for initial consultations. One client reported a $250 fee, while another mentioned a $395 fee for an initial consultation with different attorneys. These fees are for the initial discussion and strategic advice provided during that session.

Additionally, one review mentions being presented with a "flat fee strategy" for further legal action, indicating that the firm may offer various pricing models beyond hourly rates for ongoing representation, depending on the complexity and nature of the case.

A significant aspect to note, highlighted in an updated review, is the firm's responsiveness to complaints and willingness to issue full refunds when services did not proceed as expected. One client received a "quick issuing of my refund in full" after experiencing communication issues. This demonstrates a mechanism for addressing client dissatisfaction related to paid services.

For specific details on current consultation fees, flat fee options, or other pricing structures, potential clients should contact the firm directly. It is advisable to clarify the refund policy and communication expectations during the initial inquiry.

Update: I’ve updated the stars due to the timely response to my complaint and the quick issuing of my refund in full. Thank you! Originally Review: I paid the initial consultation fee $395, met with the lawyer (Mr. Lewis, by phone), after which I received no communication. I follow up asking for status and decision if they intended to take my case or not. I tried to give them space and follow up in between but was told they would look over my case and let me know. To date, Mr. Lewis has not called back with a final decision or any status. I do plan on requesting my refund as, I did my part and they did not. To charge someone a fee and take months to respond and end up not responding at all is unprofessional and shady. At this moment I am moving forward and just want my money back. Especially seeing how it’s been over 90 days.

Thomas Gagliardo may have a good reputation, but he was the worst lawyer. He missed deadlines. He did not do what was necessary for me and my family.
