Jack Atwood is too cocky for his own good. He represented me in a vehicular homicide dui case and truthfully couldn’t have done worse, and I paid him $20,000. He wasn’t present at my arraignment, missed several court dates, leaving me to have to explain to the judge, and d.a., What was going on. Then most importantly, he didn’t even file a single motion, and during trial it became known that there were serious chain of custody issues with my blood draw, and it shouldn’t have been allowed as evidence, but Jack never filed a motion to challenge it so it was too late. A single motion could have and would have saved me over 3 years of incarceration. I could have done 2 1/2 years max in county jail for vehicular homicide without d.u.i. Instead I got a 5-6 year sentence in state prison. Don’t get me wrong, I deserved every bit of that time, but if Jack did his job instead of thinking he knew everything without even looking through the files, I wouldn’t have had to do a day over 2 1/2 years. Then he comes to visit me and acts like he did a great job getting me only 5-6. Just about every case similar to mine gets approximately that amount of time, I could have represented myself and got a 5-6. Anyway, just be careful with this guy, he talks a good talk, and is a pitbull in trial, but there are many others doing time right now that have had similar problems with this guy, I know because I was just there talking with a few and they all had the same issues. He also belittles you constantly by talking to you and explaining everything as though you don’t comprehend basic courtroom procedure and law. Overall just a bad experience. He had my life in his hands and couldn’t have cared less.

This suggests experience in handling serious criminal charges. The review, while largely negative, does acknowledge Mr. Atwood's presence and engagement during the trial phase, referring to him as a "pitbull in trial." This could indicate a tenacious approach in the courtroom setting. However, this same review raises significant concerns regarding the handling of pre-trial motions, communication, and overall case management. The client expresses dissatisfaction with the outcome and the level of service received, particularly concerning the failure to file a potentially crucial motion related to evidence admissibility.
In contrast to the negative review, other feedback presents a different perspective. One reviewer highlights Mr. Atwood's "knowledge" and "control of the court process," describing it as "absolutely invaluable." Another client states that Mr. Atwood has represented them and their friends in cases of "wrongful prosecution" and consistently worked to uncover the truth and present the facts effectively. This suggests that some clients have had positive experiences and believe in his legal capabilities.
It is important to recognize that individual experiences with legal representation can vary significantly based on the specific circumstances of a case, the communication style between the lawyer and client, and the client's expectations. The legal field is complex, and outcomes are not always predictable. Therefore, it is advisable for potential clients to conduct their own thorough research and consider multiple perspectives when choosing a lawyer.
When searching for a lawyer in the "Lawyers Near Me" category, factors beyond online reviews should also be taken into account. These may include scheduling an initial consultation to discuss your specific legal needs, understanding the lawyer's fees and billing practices, and assessing their communication style and responsiveness. In conclusion, Jack Atwood PC, located in Plymouth, MA, appears to specialize in criminal defense, with experience in cases ranging from DUI and vehicular homicide to wrongful prosecution. Client reviews present a mixed picture, with some praising the lawyer's knowledge and courtroom skills, while others express serious concerns about case management, communication, and attention to detail. Nov 10, 2024 · Justin KilburnJack has such knowledge and I can't stress enough control of the court process it's absolutely invaluable. This man has represented me and many of my friends in wrongful prosecution and has always managed to get to the truth and have the facts be told. If only everyone could be represented with such competency.
Dec 13, 2022 · Michael CannonJack literally probably saved my life. I was facing 5 months to 2 1/2 years for a DUI charge. A rogue cop in Marshfield pulled me over 100 yards from the DAV and claimed I swerved across both lines. Jack skillfully cross examined the cop and even got him to screw up counting numbers backwards on the stand. It was priceless the jury's reaction when they saw that. The jury came back in less than 30 minutes with a not guilty verdict. I own a company and had numerous contracts that would have been defaulted, I would have lost everything, maybe even my family. Thanks Jack for saving my life!
Aug 17, 2018 · Michael BurkeHighly recommend Jack as he is extremely well versed in the law and one of the best criminal defense lawyers in New England. If you or someone you know is in need of legal counsel, don't hesitate for a moment to get in touch.
Nov 04, 2018 · Nicholas DrewJACK ATWOOD could not have been worse. Atwood cost me 50 months in prison. Over a simple rsp charge as a local, licensed buyer of gold. First calling the alleged victims/witnesses “ very pathetic” during the plea colloquy, after the judge accepted the plea in open court. Insulting the court enraged the judge so he retracted the plea. Atwood admits he’s ineffective, apologizing to me and the court stating “I failed my client, this is truly ineffective assistance of counsel. I don’t know what else to say.” This is all in the transcripts if anyone wants a copy. It gets worse. Atwood fails to raise the 5th Amendment, double jeopardy Clause of the United States Constitution at that time or anytime having 6 months to prepare now before a 2nd and clearly illegal, costly trial. My plea was accepted in open court. Comm v Dean-Ganek “once plea is accepted it’s final and conclusive.” Had Atwood simply filed a double jeopardy claim after judge retracts or before the start of the second trial, I would’ve never seen a day in prison. We had a signed contract with the commonwealth stating I was going home on probation for this simple rsp charge. As a licensed buyer of 2nd hand articles like (pawn stars on tv) NOW ABOUT THE FEES; Atwood also agreed on a price of $10,000. Then he doubled it to 20k. Then he tripled it to $30,000. This man has 0 morals and less than 0 credibility. I should of dumped him and just lost the first 10k after I heard Howie Carr speak poorly about him calling him “Jake the Snake” on his show. I’m posting this so you are forewarned before you hire this inadequate, ineffective and reckless lawyer. And of course out of deep anger for my losses. My decision by the appeals court came out in March 6th Lawyers Weekly 2017. APPEALS COURT RENDERED DECISION IN MY FAVOR! On all the same issues I was denied on in superior court. Thank you to the ultra smart appeals courts judges, I’m finally going home to my grandchildren. After filing a pro se brief, using my entire time in prison to study the law, I won on all issues presented! Remember now my signed deal before Atwood’s egregious remarks was for probation. No prison, no restitution. We all agreed to probation. Now before same court, same Judge, same ADA, I’m sentenced to10 years in state prison! Please for the non legal haters, educate yourself on an Alford pleas before u form any opinion about me. I’m not about to flip a coin on my life. That’s what trial is. A coin flip! My question is what happened to probation? Atwood has passed his prime if he ever had a prime. So much more went bad including suggesting I hire appellant counsel Jeanne Kempthorne who took my money (so much for hiring Harvard educated lawyers) and she didn’t even provide a brief to me, after I paid her $22,000. Her agenda was to protect her boy ATWOOD! Imagine all these legal, brilliant minds with all their combined years of education and experience and not one raised the Fifth Amendment Double Jeopardy Clause. I should mention ( all part of the record ) before and during my Pretrial period, ATWOOD WAS TRAINING TO OPEN A CASH FOR GOLD BUYING BUSINESS BENEATH HIS LAW OFFICE IN Plymouth. We had a contract! He opened after I spent weeks training him and never paid me a dime of our contract! Had he spent more time on my case instead of sticking me up for a “cash for gold” business I may of had better results. Hard to believe? Contact me for the transcripts, or the high courts decision blaming Atwood for his shabby attempt of protecting my rights. I lost 50 months of my life because of Atwood. I lost 50 months of time with my grandson and daughter who are in our custody who very much needed me. I can never get that back can I Atwood? Tell me Jack, did you take an oath to uphold the constitution? They why didn’t you?
