Joel even took the time to recommend other lawyers to me to help in other cases. The best thing was they were honest. I forgot I signed a contract for one amount and they called me when they received a check larger than what they should have and gave the difference back. I couldn’t be more pleased with Joel Thrift Law and his very effective, caring, and results-driven team. I of course must mention his stellar paralegal Iryna. I had been pressured into using a different SSDI representative firm that had no lawyers, pressured by my long term disability company through my former employer, called ALLSUP, and ALLSUP really let me down and I lost the initial application and the appeal for reconsideration even with blatant evidence of permanent disability due to multiple diseases, and also multiple (3+) separate doctors writing that they definitively were stating that my conditions render me permanently disabled. So, I decided to find someone else that could actually help me once I got to the Administrative Law Judge hearing phase… and after multiple days of searching and researching, I decided that I wanted to hire Joel Thrift Law if they would take my case on. Some of the most wonderful things about this law firm is that when they take on your case, it’s because he genuinely believes he can win your case (otherwise they don’t get paid, so the incentives are aligned). Of note, when I filled out the contact form online, I was speaking with Iryna very soon after, either that same afternoon or the next morning. Most law firms never call back, or have offshore call handling services that are horrendous, but Joel Thrift Law actually has a real employee/paralegal answering the phone (and also answering emails in a very timely manner - usually within 1-4 hours during business hours). So my case was handled very personally. And that makes a big difference, since most firms outsource call intake, etc. One of my disabling diseases is incredibly rare (lots of people say that they have a rare disease, but my variant of this disease is only present in about 35-55 people in all of North America, so it’s very truly rare) and thus not well known even by most doctors, so it took a good bit of effort for the legal team to explain this progressive deteriorative liver condition and its ramifications regarding ability to work to the Judge and other SSA employees. Another important note is that through every step of our very short legal representation time (from like, October-ish of 2024 until I got the award approval letter early this month, February 2025), I definitely felt heard, I felt that they cared about my case, about the urgency of my financial need for this case to be approved, and how much this mattered to me as it does for every applicant for SSDI. Iryna always picked up the phone or called me right back, and responded to emails very quickly. I didn’t even have to go to the hearing with the judge! I requested that the attorney, Joel, prepare something called an OTR brief (On The Record), which is a written brief to give to the assigned judge before the hearing to request the case be decided in an affirmative/approved manner instead of requiring a full judicial court hearing. Joel wasn’t confident it would be approved, but there is no harm in submitting an OTR because the worst result is the judge stating they want to hear more about the case in person at the scheduled hearing. Fortunately, one month before the hearing was scheduled with the Judge, I got an approval decision letter from Social Security. What a relief for me and my family. I am NOT the kind of person who wants to get welfare, and I’d much rather be healthy and working, but this has made a massive difference for me and my family. Joel Thrift Law and his paralegal Iryna were there with me advising, answering questions every step of the way. While they only were a relatively short portion of my year and a half (or more) of the SSDI application process, their contributions to write the OTR brief made the difference, and I’m grateful. Joel also, it is worth noting, has presented cases to almost every Administrative Law Judge in our region, and knows the tendencies of each judge, which is a big asset. I would highly recommend Joel Thrift Law for anybody’s SSDI application representation needs. I can only say good things!
