Update: 1/30/25 It’s been two years and I’m learning that I’m still legally married. This practice consistently failed to file documentation to courts. I am currently waiting on reimbursement of filing fees. If I could, I would give this practice zero stars. —— I reached out to this particular law office on 1/13/23 as they came preferred through my legal plan offered by my employer. I reached out to file a petition for divorce. Documents were prepared quickly and sent to me via email. After my review, I signed and returned them via email. I was then asked to send in monies for filing fees. A year had gone by with no contact from them, I reached out to follow up because how long could a divorce take (both parties agree)? Candy has since retired and someone named Samantha has taken her place. Samantha said payment doesn’t show as received and has refused to respond to any follow up email. Firstly, what? You claim to have not received payment from a client but don’t reach out to them in any way? But ok, I will take responsibility for that one..I should’ve followed up and sooner. BUT, Samantha..why be SO unprofessional and not respond to my email inquiry to resolve the matter? Does your employer know you are treating their clients this way and potentially causing them to lose clients? Shame on you! Here was my first reply to Samantha, dated 4/1/24, “Yes, it was sent in after Candy sent the documents. You show no record of having received it? I can resend or call to process payment if you prefer. How does this affect the divorce proceeding? Does it delay it even further? What should I now expect as an end date should things go as planned moving forward? It’s tax season so I’m wondering if I should again just file married but separate rather than joint. Perhaps it would be better to put in for an extension, no idea. I can’t say I was expecting your response.. Let me know how I should proceed.” And still..crickets. I sent another this morning advising that prior documents will need amendments since the contact info is no longer valid being it’s a year later. I asked if I should just reach out to my lawyer directly. But honestly, what a shitshow..lawyer was wonderful and professional when I spoke with him. But Samantha leaves much to be desired. Had I been aware they never received payment, I would’ve gone down an hand delivered, if necessary..it’s a year later and I’m still legally married and can’t get a reply from staff. Unprofessional.

John F Spall Law Offices Introduce

When searching for legal representation in the "Lawyers Near Me" category within the Hawley, Pennsylvania area, it is crucial to gather a comprehensive understanding of potential law offices. This introduction focuses on John F Spall Law Offices, located at 2573 US-6, Hawley, PA 18428, USA. Our aim is to present local users with an objective perspective on their potential services, the environment one might anticipate, notable features, and, most importantly, insights derived from publicly available client reviews.

While specific details regarding the physical environment of John F Spall Law Offices are not available online, it is generally expected that a law office would offer a professional and private space for client consultations and legal proceedings. Situated in Hawley, Pennsylvania, the office is likely accessible to residents in the surrounding communities seeking local legal counsel. The location along US-6 suggests a degree of accessibility for those in the region.

The available information regarding John F Spall Law Offices consists of critical client reviews detailing significant issues with the firm's service and administrative processes. One client, in an update two years after initially engaging the firm for a divorce, reports that they are still legally married due to the practice's alleged failure to file necessary court documentation. This client also mentions awaiting reimbursement of filing fees and expresses extreme dissatisfaction, stating they would give the practice zero stars if possible.

Another client's detailed account describes reaching out to the office for a divorce petition based on a legal plan offered by their employer. While the initial document preparation was reported as quick and the attorney was described as "wonderful and professional," the subsequent administrative handling of the case appears to have been severely problematic. This client alleges that after submitting payment for filing fees, a year passed with no communication from the office. Upon following up, they were informed that the payment was not recorded. The client also expresses frustration with the unprofessionalism and lack of response from a staff member named Samantha regarding the resolution of this payment issue and the progress of their divorce case. This individual highlights the significant delay caused, impacting their personal financial decisions, and ultimately labels the experience a "shitshow" despite a positive initial interaction with the lawyer.

A third review mentions waiting for the return of a "couple thousand dollar retainer." This client reports difficulty in getting in touch with the office to inquire about the status of the retainer and states that they are no longer receiving answers or callbacks, leading them to consider contacting the bar association.

Based on these critical reviews, it is challenging to objectively outline positive features of John F Spall Law Offices. However, we can identify the following aspects based on the client experiences:

  • Initial Attorney Interaction (Potentially Positive): One review notes that the lawyer was "wonderful and professional" during initial consultations.
  • Document Preparation (Potentially Efficient): In one instance, documents were reportedly prepared quickly.

However, it is crucial to acknowledge the significant negative issues raised:

  • Failure to File Court Documentation: A serious allegation resulting in a prolonged legal status and potential financial repercussions for the client.
  • Poor Administrative Processes: Issues with payment recording, lack of follow-up, and failure to communicate effectively with clients.
  • Unprofessional Staff Conduct: Allegations of unresponsiveness and unprofessional behavior from at least one staff member.
  • Retainer Issues: Difficulty in obtaining information and the return of a retainer fee.

Given the overwhelmingly negative nature of the recent online feedback, it is not possible to provide positive promotional information for John F Spall Law Offices at this time. The serious allegations regarding administrative failures, lack of communication, and potential mishandling of cases should be a significant concern for any prospective clients.

Important Considerations for Local Users:

  • Significant Negative Feedback: The available reviews highlight serious issues with the firm's administrative processes and client communication.
  • Potential for Case Delays: Allegations of failure to file documentation could lead to significant delays in legal proceedings.
  • Concerns Regarding Financial Matters: Issues with payment processing and the return of retainers raise concerns about financial transparency and management.
  • Impact on Clients: The reported experiences suggest a significant negative impact on clients' lives and legal outcomes.

Recommendation:

Based solely on the publicly available reviews provided, local users searching for "Lawyers Near Me" in Hawley, PA, should exercise extreme caution when considering John F Spall Law Offices. The serious allegations of administrative failures, poor communication, and potential negligence in handling legal matters warrant significant concern. It is strongly recommended that potential clients thoroughly explore alternative legal options in the area and seek firms with more positive and verifiable client feedback. Engaging a law firm requires trust and confidence in their ability to handle your legal needs professionally and efficiently. The information currently available raises substantial doubts about John F Spall Law Offices' ability to consistently meet these expectations.

Before making any decisions about legal representation, it is always advisable to:

  • Seek Multiple Opinions: Consult with several law firms to compare their services, fees, and client testimonials.
  • Check Credentials and Standing: Verify the attorneys' good standing with the Pennsylvania Bar Association.
  • Request References: Ask for references from past clients to gain firsthand insights into their experiences.
  • Have a Clear Fee Agreement: Ensure a comprehensive written agreement outlining all fees and billing practices.

In conclusion, while John F Spall Law Offices is located in Hawley, PA, the severely negative feedback from recent online reviews indicates significant issues with their administrative processes and client service. Local users are strongly urged to proceed with extreme caution and to thoroughly investigate other legal options in the "Lawyers Near Me" category to ensure they receive competent, professional, and reliable legal representation.

I have been waiting for a couple thousand dollar retainer to be sent back to me. After the few times I got ahold of someone, I never got an answer as to what is going on. Now they don't even answer or call back. I can only assume I have to call the bar association at this point.

Very unprofessional! The firm was hired to handle my closing. They neglected to inform us about entering the final reading of the propane tank into the contract, which costs us about $600. We contacted them to help us in recovering the funds and their unwillingness to help added to the terrible experience. Customer service and professionalism is not their strong suit. There are many other real estate law firms around, choose one of them.

Contacted their office via email twice after emailing all initially requested information. Called the office and spoke to the legal assistant/secretary three times, in a span of the week (I gave them my name and phone number again). Was promised to hear back from them on three occasions, to no avail. First time experiencing such poor customer service.

We have used the firm's expert lawyers for all of our real estate transactions. They are prompt, courteous, and very knowledgeable. Their fees are reasonable too.
