In 2014 I sued three airplane mechanics who ruined the restoration of a DC-3 airplane my father flew on in WWII. One of them hired Dowdy to represented him, 2013-2019. Dowdy advised this person to make a settlement offer under Texas Rule 167, which allowed that if I rejected the offer, and didn't at trial get 80% of what the defendant offered, I had to pay his legal fees incurred after rejecting his offer, limited to the amount he at trial would owe me - but neither Dowdy or I knew about this limit. In 2017, I decided to drop the suit, and, since I didn't get 80%, I sought in good faith to pay the defendants their legal fees. Dowdy claimed an amount of fees. I requested a copy of the engagement letter he had with the client, and he refused to provide this. I filed a Motion to Compel and finally got it. The statute allowed the defendant to recover his "actual expenses incurred," and the engagement letter showed Dowdy gave this client a special lower rate. Yet Dowdy SUBMITTED FALSIFIED INVOICES to the court saying he billed his usual rate and therein TRIED TO ROB ME OF a large amount of money. Dowdy and his conspirator E.L. Atkins lost in the district court, appealed, and the appeals court were the first ones to explain the limit to us. Dowdy took this to the Texas Supreme Court, and lost again there. Dowdy and Atkins wrote many false statements about me in their filings. I filed a grievance with the State Bar about Dowdy falsifying the rate he billed his client, and the State Bar elevated the grievance to a complaint. Dowdy had to hire an attorney to defend himself, who in turn filed many false statements with the State Bar, and was cleared for some wrong reasons. Dowdy was a crook to prepare falsified documents, submit them to the court, try to hide this from me, and try to steal from me.

This can encompass contract disputes, business disagreements, and other non-criminal legal conflicts that may proceed to court.
  • Contract Law: Advising on, drafting, and litigating disputes related to various types of contracts, whether for individuals or businesses.
  • Dispute Resolution: Assisting clients in negotiating settlements, participating in mediation, or pursuing other forms of alternative dispute resolution to resolve conflicts outside of a traditional courtroom trial. This could include advising on settlement offers like those under Texas Rule 167.
  • Appellate Law: Representing clients in appeals to higher courts, such as the Texas Court of Appeals or the Texas Supreme Court, following a decision in a lower court. This is suggested by the client's review mentioning appeals.

Features and Highlights that Benefit Texans

When considering legal representation, understanding the unique features and highlights of a law firm is important for potential clients in Texas. While detailed positive features for John V. Dowdy, Jr., PC, are limited in the provided information, general attributes that law offices strive to embody and that can benefit Texans include:

  • Local Presence: Being situated in Arlington, TX, positions the office conveniently for individuals and businesses within the expansive Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. A local attorney often possesses familiarity with regional court systems, local legal precedents, and community dynamics, which can be beneficial in navigating specific legal matters within Texas.
  • Experience in Civil Proceedings: Given the nature of the client review, which details a civil lawsuit and appeals, it suggests that John V. Dowdy, Jr., PC, has experience in managing complex civil litigation and appellate processes. This experience is critical for clients whose cases may involve protracted disputes or require higher court review.
  • Commitment to Client Advocacy: Law firms are generally committed to advocating for their clients' interests within the bounds of the law. This involves presenting their case effectively, whether through negotiation or litigation, and striving for outcomes that benefit the client.
  • Ethical Conduct (Standard Expectation): All attorneys are bound by professional codes of conduct and ethics set by the State Bar of Texas. Adherence to these standards is a fundamental expectation for any legal service provider, ensuring fairness, honesty, and professional integrity in their dealings with clients, opposing parties, and the courts.

For Texans making a choice about legal representation, it is always prudent to conduct thorough due diligence. This includes reviewing all available information, and, most importantly, directly communicating with the firm to assess their specific approach to client relations, their experience in relevant legal fields, and their overall professional standards. This direct engagement ensures that prospective clients can make the most informed decision for their legal needs.

Promotions or Special Offers

Based on the provided information, there are no specific "promotions" or "special offers" advertised by John V. Dowdy, Jr., PC. In the legal industry, particularly for established law firms handling civil litigation, the concept of "promotions" in the retail sense is not common. Law firms typically do not offer discounts, sales, or limited-time deals on their services.

Instead, a law firm's value proposition is generally centered on its legal expertise, experience, professional reputation, and approach to client service. Any "offers" or benefits to clients are more likely to be found in aspects such as:

  • Consultation Practices: Some firms offer an initial consultation, which may or may not be complimentary, to discuss a potential client's case and determine if there is a suitable fit for representation. This provides an opportunity for the client to understand the firm's approach and for the firm to assess the case.
  • Fee Structure Transparency: While not a discount, clarity on billing practices (e.g., hourly rates, retainers, potential for flat fees in specific cases if applicable) is a crucial aspect of value. Firms that are upfront about their fee structures provide financial predictability to their clients.
  • Efficiency in Practice: A firm that operates efficiently and strives for pragmatic resolutions can indirectly save clients money by reducing the overall time and resources spent on a legal matter. This efficiency is a benefit rather than a direct promotion.

For Texans considering legal representation from John V. Dowdy, Jr., PC, it would be essential to inquire directly about their fee structure and consultation policy during an initial contact. Understanding how legal services are billed and what is included in the representation agreement is a critical part of the client engagement process.
