Absolutely Horrible Experience - 0 Stars I would not recommend Ronald W. Thompson to anyone. He was completely unprofessional and failed to represent me in my divorce case in any meaningful way. I essentially did all the work myself while he did very little. Firstly, the consultation fee was not applied toward the service charge. He requested all my credit card statements and other documents, but they were never used for anything. The worst part came during mediation with my ex-husband. Ronald acted as though he was representing my ex instead of me. At one point, I even had to ask him if he was representing me or my ex-husband because he kept defending him, even though I had proof to the contrary. He wouldn’t let me speak, raised his voice, and was overall disrespectful. To make matters worse, Ronald canceled my court date at the last minute, claiming a scheduling conflict with another case. I was already in court waiting when he called me to inform me that the court had rescheduled the date. The judge even told me that it was Ronald’s decision to reschedule. He rarely returned my calls, was disorganized, and completely unreliable throughout the entire process. The only thing he did was show up in court for the final decision, and that was it. He stole my money for basically doing nothing. This was a huge headache, and I deeply regret hiring him. He's cheap for a reason—his services are not worth the frustration. I wouldn’t trust him with any legal matters. I don't even know how he's still practicing law. Save yourself the trouble—look elsewhere. I wish I can give this lawyer a 0 stars. I truly feel bad for the secretary that works for this clown.

He is also noted to have lived in Mexico and is familiar with Border Patrol/ICE/USCIS, suggesting a specialization and deep understanding in this complex field.
  • Criminal Defense Law: The firm also practices criminal defense throughout Rhode Island, covering a wide range of issues such as criminal appeals, drug crimes, expungement, fraud, gun crimes, internet crimes, sex crimes, theft, and violent crimes. His professional experience includes serving as an Assistant Public Defender and Assistant to the Attorney General, which would provide significant background in criminal litigation.
Additionally, Mr. Thompson is noted to be able to communicate in Spanish and French, which is a valuable asset for serving a diverse client base in Rhode Island and southern Massachusetts. This multi-lingual capability and varied practice areas position the Law Office of Ronald W. Thompson, Jr. as a firm aiming to provide comprehensive legal support across different sectors, catering to various needs within the "Lawyers Near Me" category.

The features of the Law Office of Ronald W. Thompson, Jr., as conveyed through client feedback, present a highly critical perspective, which is crucial for an objective introduction. The provided testimonials are identical and paint a consistently negative picture of the client experience. The client states, "I would not recommend Ronald W. Thompson to anyone. He was completely unprofessional and failed to represent me in my divorce case in any meaningful way. I essentially did all the work myself while he did very little." This highlights a perceived lack of professional engagement and effective representation. Further critical points include:

  • Financial Concerns: "The consultation fee was not applied toward the service charge. He requested all my credit card statements and other documents, but they were never used for anything." This raises concerns about billing practices and the utility of requested documentation.
  • Conflict of Interest/Lack of Advocacy: "The worst part came during mediation with my ex-husband. Ronald acted as though he was representing my ex instead of me. At one point, I even had to ask him if he was representing me or my ex-husband because he kept defending him, even though I had proof to the contrary. He wouldn’t let me speak, raised his voice, and was overall disrespectful." These are very serious allegations of a fundamental breach of attorney-client duty, indicating a failure to advocate for the client's interests and exhibiting disrespectful behavior.
  • Disorganization and Unreliability: "To make matters worse, Ronald canceled my court date at the last minute, claiming a scheduling conflict with another case. I was already in court waiting when he called me to inform me that the court had rescheduled the date. The judge even told me that it was Ronald’s decision to reschedule." This points to significant organizational issues and unreliability, causing direct inconvenience and confusion for the client. The claim of a scheduling conflict, contradicted by the judge, further exacerbates trust issues.
  • Poor Communication: "He rarely returned my calls, was disorganized, and completely unreliable throughout the entire process." This indicates a severe lack of communication, a vital component of satisfactory legal service.
  • Perceived Ineffectiveness and Financial Misappropriation: "The only thing he did was show up in court for the final decision, and that was it. He stole my money for basically doing nothing." This strong assertion of inadequate service and financial dissatisfaction highlights the client's perception that they paid for services that were not rendered.
The client's summary, "This was a huge headache, and I deeply regret hiring him. He's cheap for a reason—his services are not worth the frustration. I wouldn’t trust him with any legal matters. I don't even know how he's still practicing law. Save yourself the trouble—look elsewhere. I wish I can give this lawyer a 0 stars. I truly feel bad for the secretary that works for this clown," expresses profound dissatisfaction and a strong recommendation against hiring the firm. These features, as described by a client, are critical for anyone considering the Law Office of Ronald W. Thompson, Jr. for their legal needs, especially those relying on "Lawyers Near Me" for initial screening.

From a promotional standpoint, the Law Office of Ronald W. Thompson, Jr. relies on its direct contact information—phone: (401) 433-7938 and mobile phone: +1 401-433-7938—and its listed practice areas to attract clients. The firm's online presence highlights its services in immigration, criminal, and family law, and its ability to communicate in Spanish and French. It also emphasizes that it is open 24/7, suggesting a commitment to being available for clients. However, the overwhelmingly negative client testimonials in the prompt directly contradict any positive promotional messaging and serve as a significant deterrent. In the digital age, client reviews play a crucial role in shaping a firm's reputation, particularly for "Lawyers Near Me" searches where individuals often rely on peer experiences to guide their choices. While the firm may promote its accessibility and breadth of services, the detailed and severe criticisms from a former client regarding professionalism, advocacy, communication, and financial practices would likely overshadow any positive promotional efforts. For potential clients, these reviews act as a strong warning, directly advising them to "look elsewhere" and asserting that the services are "not worth the frustration." This situation underscores the immense impact of client satisfaction and public feedback on a legal firm's effective promotion and viability.
