This attorney I cannot recommend. In my experience: He is suspicious of his clients and assumes the worst of them. He will spend his time asking YOU to come up with your reasoning to support your case in custody issues, rather than help you prepare a case. He will run like a bunny if the opposing council becomes too aggressive, such as in requesting a (writ of) mandamus. He will make recommendations and set you up with other council to arbitrate, but that council will beat you down verbally to discourage you. There will be grandstanding to show you what a "great" and "caring" person he is, but sadly, he is just one of the "good old boys and girls" network of attorneys and judges in San Antonio, TX. If you think this network does not exist, and you do not understand that they make most of their arrangements and decisions between each other, prior to any court event, your are sadly naive and therefore more vulnerable within this system. This attorney will work against you, not for you. He will not explain what he is doing. He will not teach you about what would be helpful for you to do in your case. Hopefully this attorney experiences the same representation he provided to me, either for himself or his family. Truly most attorneys should receive what they do to others within our court systems.

Features / Highlights

Based on the provided customer review, specific features and highlights concerning Mendez H E’s professional approach and client interaction can be discerned. It is important to note that this section is based on a single, critical review, which offers a particular perspective on the attorney's service delivery. Therefore, these points reflect the experience of that specific client:

  • Client Suspicion and Assumption: The client reported feeling that the attorney was "suspicious of his clients and assumes the worst of them." This suggests a perceived lack of trust or a negative initial impression of the client's position or credibility.
  • Client-Led Case Preparation: According to the review, the attorney reportedly spent time "asking YOU to come up with your reasoning to support your case in custody issues, rather than help you prepare a case." This implies a style where the onus of developing arguments and evidence falls significantly on the client, rather than the attorney proactively guiding or structuring the case strategy.
  • Responsiveness to Aggressive Opposing Counsel: The client stated that the attorney "will run like a bunny if the opposing council becomes too aggressive, such as in requesting a (writ of) mandamus." This suggests a perceived reluctance or inability to stand firm against aggressive legal tactics from opposing counsel.
  • Referral to Disheartening Arbitration: The attorney reportedly "make recommendations and set you up with other council to arbitrate, but that council will beat you down verbally to discourage you." This indicates a referral process that, in the client’s experience, led to discouraging and verbally aggressive interactions with other legal professionals.
  • Perceived Grandstanding and "Good Old Boys and Girls" Network: The review alleges "grandstanding to show you what a 'great' and 'caring' person he is," combined with a belief that the attorney is part of a "good old boys and girls network of attorneys and judges in San Antonio, TX." This implies a concern about undue influence or pre-arranged outcomes within the local legal community, rather than a focus purely on the client's interests.
  • Lack of Explanation and Guidance: The client reported that the attorney "will not explain what he is doing" and "will not teach you about what would be helpful for you to do in your case." This suggests a perceived lack of transparency and client education regarding legal processes and strategies.
  • Perceived Work Against the Client: The most significant highlight from the client's perspective is the belief that "This attorney will work against you, not for you." This is a severe criticism indicating a perceived conflict of interest or a misalignment of objectives between the attorney and the client.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

When considering legal representation in San Antonio, locals have a diverse range of options, and making an informed choice is paramount. Based on the publicly available information, including location, primary legal area indicated, and a detailed client review, individuals in Texas should carefully evaluate whether Mendez H E is suitable for their specific needs. The central location at 212 Losoya St offers practical accessibility for San Antonio residents, being situated in the heart of downtown with convenient access via public transport and proximity to key legal institutions. This geographical advantage can be a significant benefit for clients who need to attend frequent meetings or court appearances.

However, suitability for locals extends beyond mere location. The critical client review provides a perspective that potential clients should consider as part of their decision-making process. The review highlights concerns regarding attorney-client trust, the attorney's approach to case preparation (suggesting a client-led strategy), perceived avoidance of aggressive opposing counsel, and allegations of being part of a local "network" that might prioritize internal arrangements over client interests. Furthermore, the review mentions a lack of explanation and guidance, leaving the client feeling unassisted in understanding their case.

For Texans seeking legal counsel, particularly in sensitive areas like child custody, it is crucial to find an attorney who fosters trust, provides clear explanations, actively prepares the case, and robustly advocates on their behalf. While this single review represents one individual's experience and may not reflect the full scope of Mendez H E's practice or the experiences of all clients, it offers valuable insights. Locals should use this information as a starting point, conducting their own due diligence, perhaps by scheduling a consultation to personally assess the attorney's communication style, approach, and suitability for their unique legal situation. Understanding both the practical benefits of location and the reported client experiences is essential for San Antonio residents to make a choice that aligns with their expectations for professional and supportive legal representation.
