I hired this law firm about 3 weeks ago. My lawyer was Ebony. I asked a few questions about my divorce and couldn’t understand George law never was the law explained to me. I paid my retainer fee. Then they started asking me if I wanted to go to trial, but wouldn’t explain why would you go to trial in a divorce? We only have one item a car to get worked out then wanted me to pay 12,500$ then wanted me to pay $2500 for an emergency hearing for my car. After asking questions one of the partners called me and told me….. they could not handle my case after reviewing emails between me and Ebony …… you need to be knowledgeable in your case ….. remember you are paying them…. Make your own decision to use them or not….. oh and lost my money …. This law firm Would not return my funds …… not great business…..

Welcome to Lawyers Near Me, your platform for connecting with legal professionals in your local area. Today, we present information regarding Meriwether & Tharp, LLC, located at 11475 Great Oaks Way #125, Alpharetta, GA 30022, USA. It is important to note that the recent customer reviews available online raise significant concerns regarding this firm's billing practices, communication, and overall client experience. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview based on these reviews, urging potential clients to consider this feedback carefully.

Meriwether & Tharp, LLC operates from an office located on Great Oaks Way in Alpharetta, Georgia. This address suggests a presence within a commercial or professional complex in the area, potentially offering accessibility for clients in Alpharetta and surrounding communities. However, the limited information available does not provide details about the firm's internal environment or the specific amenities offered to clients. While a professional setting is generally expected of law firms, the client experiences described in the reviews may overshadow the physical environment.

The customer reviews available online primarily focus on negative experiences related to divorce and family law matters handled by Meriwether & Tharp, LLC. While the firm likely offers a range of legal services, the feedback centers on issues encountered within this specific domain. Based on the reviews, potential areas of service may include:

  • Divorce Law: Both reviews explicitly mention divorce cases handled by the firm, indicating that this is one area of their practice.
  • Family Law: Given the context of divorce, it is probable that the firm handles other family law matters, although specific details are not provided in the negative reviews.

It is important to acknowledge that these insights are derived solely from the negative feedback provided by two reviewers. A comprehensive understanding of all service areas would require direct engagement with the firm.

The customer reviews highlight several significant concerns that potential clients should carefully consider as key features, or rather, problematic aspects of their experience with Meriwether & Tharp, LLC:

  • Lack of Clear Communication and Explanation: One reviewer who hired the firm for a divorce case reported asking questions about Georgia law but felt that the law was never adequately explained to them by their lawyer, Ebony. This lack of clarity hindered their understanding of the legal process.
  • Premature Push Towards Trial Without Justification: The same reviewer mentioned being asked about going to trial early in the process, despite having only one significant asset (a car) to resolve. The reasons for potentially going to trial were not explained, causing confusion and concern about unnecessary escalation of costs.
  • Unexpected and High Additional Fees: The reviewer was quoted substantial additional fees, including $12,500 and a further $2,500 for an "emergency hearing" regarding their car, without a clear justification for these costs in the context of their seemingly straightforward case.
  • Abrupt Termination of Representation and Loss of Retainer Funds: After the client raised questions and concerns, a partner reportedly informed them that the firm could not handle their case after reviewing emails. Critically, the reviewer alleges that the firm refused to return their retainer funds, describing this as "not great business."
  • Excessive and Unjustified Billing: The second reviewer, who was represented by an attorney who moved to Meriwether & Tharp, described being billed "non stop for any and everything they could think of." They claimed that despite no significant activity such as court hearings or motions, the firm managed to accrue over $30,000 in billable hours.
  • Lack of Preparedness and Ineffective Representation: During mediation, the second reviewer felt their attorney was unprepared, lacking a plan for asset division and failing to address hidden finances. They felt "outclassed" by the opposing side, despite being billed for the attorney's time.
  • Aggressive Post-Divorce Billing Practices: After the divorce was finalized and the $30,000 bill was paid, the firm allegedly sent an additional $1,400 invoice and threatened to sue the client for non-payment. This was perceived as unethical and a poor way to treat a former client who had already paid a substantial sum.
  • Allegations of Unethical Conduct: Based on their experience, the second reviewer explicitly labeled the firm as "unethical" and suggested that individuals would be better off with no representation than hiring them.

There is no promotional information available for Meriwether & Tharp, LLC in the provided text. The recent customer reviews focus entirely on negative experiences related to billing and service issues, overshadowing any potential promotional aspects of the firm.

For local users in Alpharetta, Georgia, who are seeking legal representation, particularly in divorce or family law matters, the recent customer reviews for Meriwether & Tharp, LLC present significant red flags. The allegations of poor communication, unexplained and excessive billing, lack of preparedness, abrupt termination of representation, and refusal to return unearned fees should be carefully considered.

The strong negative sentiments expressed by both reviewers, including recommending against using the firm and labeling their practices as unethical, warrant serious attention from potential clients. While every legal experience can vary, a pattern of such critical feedback suggests potential systemic issues within the firm's client management and billing practices.

Given the serious nature of the allegations in these reviews, it is strongly recommended that local users in Alpharetta conduct thorough due diligence before considering Meriwether & Tharp, LLC for their legal needs. This may include seeking additional reviews from other sources, consulting with other attorneys in the area, and carefully considering whether the reported experiences align with your expectations for legal representation.

Choosing a lawyer is a critical decision that requires careful consideration of not only their legal expertise but also their communication style, billing practices, and commitment to client service. The recent feedback for Meriwether & Tharp, LLC raises concerns in these crucial areas, urging potential clients to proceed with caution and explore alternative legal representation options in the Alpharetta area.

If you are considering contacting Meriwether & Tharp, LLC, it would be advisable to ask detailed questions about their billing practices, communication protocols, and client agreement terms upfront. Understanding these aspects clearly from the outset may help to mitigate some of the issues reported in the reviews. However, the severity of the negative feedback suggests that exploring other law firms in Alpharetta might be a prudent course of action to ensure a positive and effective legal experience.

Do not even consider this firm. I was being represented by Daesik Shin when he had his own firm and mid case he moved to Meriweather and Tharp. I began being billed non stop for any and everything they could think of. there were no court hearings, no motions, the case was slow and they still found a way to rack up over 30k in billable hours. At mediation my attorney was not prepared, he did not have hidden and moved finances addressed, he had no plan put together for the asset division, he happily billed the 8 hours each time but basically sat there while the opposite side just outclassed him. After the divorce finally ended and i paid my 30k bill, this firm sends me a new 1400 invoice and threatens to sue me if i don’t pay it. I paid them over 30k to do nothing on my case and they thank me by threatening to sue me. They deserve to go out of business, I hope people pay attention to these reviews. you are better off with no representation than hiring this unethical firm.

Worst “attorneys” ever….more like con artists…literally could not have done any worse of a job and screwed me over anymore than they did!!! 2 years and $30K later for a “slam dunk child support contempt case” and all they did was mess up every single document, and sell me out in a 5 minute pretrial hearing that everyone was privy to but me…then 7 hours later was told I better sign the $25K settlement of the $180K he owed, or they would charge me another $10K everyday they had to come to court…then, screwed up the final order and never even had me look at it or sign before submitting to judge, which is fraud. Then, would never even call me back or take a call about final order. They are truly evil people.

Meriwhether and Tharp promised me a backbone against a rough divorce and instead had me sacrifice everything instead. They have created utter chaos in my life and do not care, actually told me they do not care. They are inadequate and cannot do there job in any capacity to protect there client, they only care about billing. They do not disclose in there contract that they will put a lien on your house if you do not pay and do it without notifying you of anything or even care if they make it right.

After interviewing and /or hiring or firing 4 lawyers I was discouraged I'd ever get my divorce finalized. My journey started 3 years ago. From my initial conversation with Charlotte I felt optimism. Not only did she & her team deliver everything they promised it was done respectfully, politely, thoroughly & with sensitivity. Her pricing is fair. They research every possibility. They were encouraging & upbeat along the way. It helped. I would vote Meriwether & Thorpe's Charlotte Ruble team undisputed best divorce layers in Atlanta
