It is critical to note that the online reviews available for Mountain Abstract contain serious and concerning allegations regarding their handling of real estate closings. One reviewer shares a particularly negative experience, stating, "*Beware of this office*," and describing the closing as "disorganized." The reviewer details a lack of communication, particularly concerning the closing time for their agent, which allegedly led to the buyer gaining access to the property four days before the seller received the wire transfer for the funds. The reviewer also claims inconsistencies in the information provided about the wire transfer and a lack of accountability from the office staff, with excuses such as staff being out of the office or not being the closer for the transaction.
This same reviewer further alleges that an attorney associated with the office, identified as Attorney Jones (who was copied on emails but did not rectify the situation), unilaterally wrote up a "large fee" for the seller, despite the seller not having hired him and the buyer being the represented party. The reviewer states that no arrangement or fee was discussed beforehand and expresses extreme dissatisfaction with the lack of response or apology from the office after multiple attempts to address these issues. The reviewer concludes by strongly advising against using Mountain Abstract and recommending other services in the area.
Another review corroborates the issues with the wire transfer, stating that the story about when the money would be wired changed "several times." This reviewer reports a significant delay of four days in receiving their funds after settlement and attributes the eventual wire transfer to their persistent calls and demands for the company to "due their job." Based on their experience of selling multiple properties, this reviewer opines that there are "many better companies to use" and strongly advises against using Mountain Abstract, labeling it as "the last one you would want to use" due to the wire transfer issues.
Given the serious nature of these negative reviews, potential clients considering Mountain Abstract for real estate closing services or related legal assistance should exercise extreme caution. The allegations of disorganization, poor communication, inconsistencies regarding financial transactions, and a lack of accountability are significant red flags. Get directions*Beware of this office* I’ve never had such a disorganized closing on a property before this experience- and I’ve had a few to compare this to. No one takes responsibility for the poor communication. My agent was never given a response of a closing time to be present at the office to represent me, which snowballed into the buyer having keys to my property FOUR DAYS before I received a wire transfer. They changed their story about the wire transfer being submitted & was never able to provide tracking information; it was done, then it wasn’t done, & then they were going to do it. Excuses - “I was out of the office”, “I am not your closer”, and “the attorney isn’t in the office today”. Who was the person doing the closing paperwork? That info wasn’t provided to me either. Ansley & Attorney Jones were copied in multiple emails. No one made the situation right. The attorney took it upon himself to write up a large fee (though I didn’t hire him, the buyer did) and signed off on everything for me as my representative himself. No arrangement was made or fee discussed regarding this. No response or apology after multiple emails with this mess of an office. My requests and feedback were completely ignored, as was my agents. Disgusted that people like this are in business. There are good services in the area & this is not one of them!
Nov 19, 2024 · Stephanie SimoesThey changed their story several times on when the money would be wired. It took 4 days to get my money wired after settlement and it only happened that fast due to me constantly calling and asking them to due their job. Becareful on who you use. My opinion, is there are many better companies to use and this one is the last one you would want to use. I've sold several properties and never ran into this issue on a wire, until I used this company.
Sep 24, 2024 · Miss IzaGreat experience from the start to finish. I wasn't around for the closing and they handled everything. Could not have gone smoother. Ansley was a life saver
May 30, 2024 · James AvillaBUYER beware, if I could give 0 stars I would. This company does not do things correctly the 1st time and has resulted in many headaches for me. Settlement on house was 12/7/20 they decided they didn't want to pay off my mortgage in the manner my mortgage company required which resulted in my being charged an additional mortgage payment taken out of my bank account and additional interest as they did not pay it off on time. When I spoke with them on this they were VERY rude to me and acted like it was my fault my mortgage company wanted payment via wired funds or certified check rather than their "business check" check (which after all of this chaos w/ them totally understand why my mortgage company wouldn't feel comfortable with a business check). Today 4 months after my settlement I got the county tax bill, thankfully thought to contact the county recorder of deeds and was told they didn't even file the deed until Jan and on Jan 22 it was sent back to them with "many mistakes", and they have not rectified the situation to date. So I am considered in the county eyes responsible for the taxes on the property still. The county also indicated that I am not the only one who has had problems with them either. I let it go in Dec because I was over it and just wanted it settled but now I am angry and mystified how a company like this can stay in business. Hoping this helps someone some headaches and use a different company in advance.
Apr 06, 2021 · Amanda BrutonMountain Abstract made a critical error when I closed on my house with them. Turns out that the seller never paid the county taxes but Mountain Abstract never verified and had me pay my portion of the taxes to the seller. So not only was I out that money but was responsible for the full year tax. When I asked Mountain Abstract for the tax verification they obtained, I was told that their record keeper has the "worst record keeping habits" and it would be difficult to locate. It took numerous phone calls and emails to settle the issue. I had to send them my tax bill four separate times because they kept losing it. Mountain Abstract ended up eating the cost and paying the tax just days before I would have become delinquent on the tax. AVOID THIS TITLE COMPANY AT ALL COSTS. Unprofessional, unresponsive, and undeserving of their business license.
