What started out as an encouraging relationship, quickly fizzled. I solely hired Angela to fight my son's school placement based on class size (he has sensory issues), the school said no despite his being in the 2nd largest class - with 47/51 3rd grade classes being smaller) then she quickly moved forward to IEP discussions. I had no interest in an IEP because I had no interest in placing my son in the school. I did not feel that she advocated on our behalf at all that she merely shuffled information back-and-forth between the two parties. After reminding her several times of what my goal in hiring her was, I ended up terminating her services. I then enrolled my son in cyber school, $1500 poorer. I am an attorney by education, licensed in 2 states and I'd recommend finding someone who is actually going to fight for your children.

Jul 28, 2024 · Brooke MagillWhen I initially engaged this firm to advocate for my daughter, I had confidence in the attorney who represented us, believing that she would fiercely defend my daughter's rights. I had clearly conveyed the extensive challenges my daughter faced with bullying at her school and the inadequate response from the school district. Towards the end of the school year, the situation had escalated to the point where my daughter spent her lunch periods in the office due to the relentless bullying. Despite repeatedly bringing these issues to the attention of the lawyer, she consistently downplayed their significance, dismissing them as minor concerns. However, the bullying had resulted in considerable emotional distress for my daughter, impacting not only her school life but also our home environment. Regrettably, my daughter experienced severe emotional strain, leading to multiple mental breakdowns and requiring treatment at a mental health clinic for over a week. Despite the challenges, I remained resolute in advocating for my daughter's education. However, after my daughter's time in the mental health clinic, the lawyer expressed an unwillingness to continue representing us. During our conversation, she indicated that my attempt to express my views on the school's approach signified a point at which she would cease representing us. This turn of events felt profoundly unfair, as I firmly believe that parents' perspectives should hold weight in matters concerning their child's education. Emphatically, I posit that this photo, depicting the $700 fee for my daughter's final Individualized Education Program (IEP) meeting at the school, juxtaposed with the limited opportunity for parental input during the meeting, encapsulates the imbalance of representation. My aim in recounting this experience is to caution others. It is not my intent to disparage this firm, but rather to prompt individuals to be discerning and pose pertinent questions during the initial consultation. While their fees may be reasonable, I assert that I am willing to invest significantly more for legal representation provided there is genuine advocacy for the cause. Although the lawyer representing us exhibited kindness and compassion at times, I cannot overlook the sense of being let down and deceived by the representation we received. The services crucial to my daughter were not only poorly defended but were further compromised during the duration of our engagement with this firm. Evidently, substantial financial resources were expended with limited benefit. In conclusion, I urge vigilance in the selection process and stress the importance of asking pertinent questions, as without due diligence, one may find oneself incurring significant expenses for a service that leaves much to be desired.
