I would never use this lawyer for anything ever again. My wife and I were recently married when her ex started to cause trouble for us over their daughter (my step daughter). This was the first major interest he had shown since her birth (approximately 2 years earlier) and we ended up retaining Patricia on a recommendation. Probably the worst recommendation I have ever had. Not only was Patricia very unorganized (her office is a huge pile of files and looks like the office of a hoarder), but she advised my wife and I to stay out of court and do mediation to come to an agreement with the ex over parenting time. She told us that this would be the cheaper option and that court would likely award him a lot of immediate parenting time that we were uncomfortable with. $13,000 later (she never communicated her hourly rate to us) we had drafted a ~5 month plan to slowly increase parenting time for the ex. This plan worked up to every other weekend visits (he lives 4.5 hours away) alternating between his home and Indiana. She didn't even work on child support or custody and advised us to work towards an unsustainable parenting time agreement (at the time we felt like we had no choice since she was the expert and we trusted her advice). In the end, we did go to court with a different lawyer, got the parenting time schedule that was much more beneficial for our daughter (distance as a major factor), maintained 100% legal and physical custody, and had to go through child services to establish child support. The court hearing cost us ~$5000 and the child support establishment was free. In my opinion, Patricia mislead us about cost, advised us to do a parenting time schedule that was both unfeasible from a travel perspective but was also not in our daughter's best interest, lied to us about child support and legal custody, and used fear and our ignorance to manipulate us into paying her an insane amount of money. Since working with her, all other lawyers/attorneys we have worked with have been appalled with the amount of work she did for us vs. the amount she charged us. One even suggested that it was malpractice. In summary, if you value honesty, transparency, an attorney that cares about your situation and gives you advice based in reality, and doesn't charge you an arm, leg, ear, and eye to do it; do not retain Patricia Mckinnon.

May 08, 2025 · Wes KlaassenPatricia has far exceeded my expectations as an attorney. She has a great passion for seeing that justice is served fairly. Her rates are well worth the countless hours she puts into your case. I am a single father who was overwhelmed by just how complicated the entire legal process can be, but Patricia eased my fears and took my case. Patricia takes a great concern with making sure that she can represent you to the best of her ability and I can personally attest that she went above and beyond what I thought an attorney should do!
Dec 28, 2013 · Jeremy RouseIn 1999 Patricia McKinnon was my attorney. During the (2-year) anchor leg of a 6-year custody battle, Patty became one of my best friends. At the time I was a Lilly engineer and single father. My ex was a very spiteful and vindictive woman... determined to extricate my son from the lives of me and my entire family. In 1998 the courts were far less than favorable for a man who wanted to assume full custody of his son from a woman and mother. Making matters worse, when Patty took over all i had was very limited supervised visitation based on horrible counsel received in my divorce. Nevertheless, under Patti's aggressive and passionate guidance, we WON Custody!!! Patty began by restoring my full unsupervised parental rights. Ultimately our fight crossed 4 states, escalated into interstate parental kidnapping case, involved the FBI and was upheld in the Indiana Appellate and Supreme Courts. Patty's fees are WELL WORTH the countless hours she puts into your case. As a single father, I was overwhelmed by the complexity of the entire legal process. It is such an enormous burden to overcome the homefield advantage every mother has by DEFAULT. I invested all of my energy into my case. Yes I made my contributions and suggestions but Patty clearly was my Admiral. There is NO WAY I could have won this interstate war under any other attorney. I continue to be thankful for her work.
Jan 27, 2018 · Charles StiggerMs McKinnon helped give me my family back. In court I saw that she was worth every expense because I won my cases and had all my concerns and opinions in the matter heard by the court through a very professional demeanor. She is absolutely an advocate for families and the Attorney who you want representing you.
