RAICES Introduce

When individuals and families in Dallas, Texas, are seeking legal assistance related to immigration, RAICES (Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services) is a prominent organization that often appears in searches for "Lawyers Near Me." Located at 1420 W Mockingbird Ln, Dallas, TX 75247, RAICES is a non-profit organization committed to promoting justice by providing free and low-cost immigration legal services and education to underserved immigrant children, families, and refugees. This mission underscores a dedication to a vulnerable population, making their services crucial for many navigating the complex U.S. immigration system.

The environment at RAICES, situated at 1420 W Mockingbird Ln, within a professional building, is geared towards facilitating legal and social services for immigrants and refugees. As a non-profit, the physical space likely prioritizes functionality and accessibility for a diverse clientele. While specific aesthetic details are not provided, the nature of their work implies a setting designed to be welcoming and supportive, providing a safe space for individuals who are often in vulnerable circumstances. The focus on serving the community suggests an environment where clients can feel comfortable discussing sensitive legal matters and receive empathetic assistance.

RAICES offers an extensive array of immigration legal services, positioning itself as a comprehensive resource for the immigrant community. Their services are designed to address various stages and complexities of the immigration process, including:

  • Asylum Applications: Providing critical legal representation for individuals seeking protection on humanitarian grounds.
  • Removal Defense: Representing individuals facing deportation or removal proceedings, both for those in detention and those fighting cases after release.
  • DACA Renewal: Assisting beneficiaries of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) with paperwork filings and legal advice for renewals.
  • Adjustment of Status: Guiding clients through the process of changing their immigration status.
  • Consular Processing: Assisting with visa applications through U.S. consulates abroad.
  • Employment Authorization: Helping individuals secure the necessary documentation to work legally in the U.S.
  • Family-Based Petitions: Supporting families in applying for visas for relatives.
  • Naturalization/Citizenship: Providing assistance with the process of becoming a U.S. citizen.
  • Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS): Assisting unaccompanied children who have been abused, abandoned, or neglected.
  • T visas & U visas: Providing legal support for victims of human trafficking (T visas) and victims of certain crimes who have suffered mental or physical abuse and are willing to assist law enforcement (U visas).
  • Temporary Protected Status (TPS): Assisting eligible individuals from certain countries with TPS applications.
  • Representation before Courts and Agencies: This includes filings with USCIS, representation at Asylum Interviews (including Credible Fear and Reasonable Fear Interviews), representation before the Immigration Court, representation before the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA), and Federal court appeals.

Beyond legal representation, RAICES also provides non-legal services such as Legal Orientation Programs (LOP) and "Know Your Rights" Presentations (KYR), empowering communities with essential information. They serve a wide range of populations, including detained individuals, domestic violence victims, farm workers, human trafficking survivors, individuals not in legal immigration status, individuals with criminal histories, individuals with physical/mental disabilities, juveniles, LGBTQ+ individuals, and torture survivors. RAICES also operates a Detention Bond Program, helping to pay bonds to keep families together and free.

The key features of RAICES include its non-profit model, which allows them to offer free and low-cost services, making legal aid accessible to underserved communities. Their comprehensive approach, spanning both legal and non-legal services, is designed to provide holistic support to immigrants and refugees. The firm represents clients "without regard to likelihood of relief, case type, nationality, language, or any other factors," underscoring their commitment to universal access to justice. Their client advocates are noted to provide legal consultation, representation, and bond payment support to individuals from over 40 nations, demonstrating their broad reach and cultural competency. RAICES also emphasizes its advocacy efforts, fighting for a more just immigration system in courtrooms and in Congress.

However, an objective introduction must also address the varied experiences reported by clients. While one review praises the staff as "very professional" and commends their dedication to "serve the community with love," another review presents a contrasting experience. This client recounted being met with rudeness and being cut off by a staff member when seeking urgent assistance for an asylum seeker with significant needs (four children, one on the way, no support in the U.S., limited education/work skills). The client was informed that appointments wouldn't be available until the next year and was promised information about other charities that never materialized. This particular experience indicates that while the organization's mission is admirable and their services critical, there might be inconsistencies in direct client interaction and responsiveness, especially when dealing with high demand and urgent, complex situations. It suggests that while the intent to help is strong, the capacity to meet every immediate need with consistent empathy might be challenged by operational pressures.

Promotional information for RAICES primarily stems from its powerful mission and the positive impact it has on the community. The testimonial highlighting the staff's professionalism and loving service to the community serves as strong endorsement. The organization's extensive range of immigration legal services, coupled with their non-profit status and commitment to serving vulnerable populations, are significant promotional points for those actively searching for immigration legal assistance. Their work in helping clients build new lives in the U.S. and their advocacy for systemic change are also key aspects of their public image. However, the negative feedback, while representing a single incident, could be a point of consideration for potential clients, suggesting that individuals seeking services should be prepared for potential communication challenges or extended wait times, especially for urgent or immediate needs. Despite these operational challenges, RAICES remains a vital resource for immigration legal services in the Dallas area, deeply rooted in its commitment to justice and human rights for immigrants and refugees.

I can't dry eat this yesterday because I was told by a law enforcement agency to get in contact with them to help someone that was is seeking asylum she was very rude she kept cutting me off she kept telling me that they didn't have an appointment until next year to call back and maybe I would have some luck when I asked her for other information like any other charities because this person has no one in the United States has four children one on the way didn't finish school don't know how to work at anything she told me that she would text me some information and I never got the text I'm very disappointed with the person that I spoke with because I know that this is not represent everyone in the company the way I look at it if you don't like what you're doing or you're not in it to help the people with the whole heart then go find another job

Not sure. I signed up for the news letter and wrote my name on the cause paper, but online, I interpreted that they help immigrants and I stand for equality because the love of my life, my husband is from Honduras.. long story short, they're lawyers, only. Or at least that's what the lady said when I called🤦🏾‍♀️😭

Thier office is in the second floor. If you want to be seen you have to arrive very early like around 5am but they don't open intil 8am. Make sure and take all your important documents.
