I explained from the very first moment we spoke that I had no more than the $5000 asked of me to put down for my divorce and was told that should be plenty. Within weeks that amount was gone and they were asking for more on a consistent basis which was due to their over inflated “fees” for emails, phone calls or someone looking into my account. None of my near $10,000 actually went towards a divorce, and I got no real legal consultation from her because I was too afraid to ask anything of her due to what I had learned I would be charged by the firm “by the minute.” I ended up having to speak to an attorney friend in a separate field about what this firm was doing and was advised as a friend to draft a letter telling her she was no longer my legal counsel because she was a financial vampire who did absolutely nothing for me except have my still legal husband served. I’m still receiving a bill from her after the fact knowing there was money in my account when I left. Was the $10,000 not enough for you to lift a pen because that’s the most I got from this lady. Please let my mistake be your gain and find someone who actually cares. They knew what my bank account showed, my situation was but still took advantage of me. This firm caused me so much emotional and financial stress. I do believe in Karma, it’s just too bad I’ll never get to know what there’s is.

Long story short: we were quoted $7k for our private adoption, with the understanding that any contesting would raise the price. Yet, with no contesting from the natural parents, the Native American tribe, nor anyone else, our adoption took them 18 months and $18k to complete. We were so disappointed, as we had felt like we had an advocate in Ms. Shemesh when we spoke with her in the beginning. Yet, time and time again we had to find answers for ourselves. We called, drove, and met with the various people and offices to find answers the firm could not provide. On a few occasions the Shemesh team gave us incorrect information, and then billed us for telling them the correct information. After 5 months of waiting, we were told the next step was setting the hearing, but didn't hear from them for over a month. When we reached out, they responded with a hearing date. We were so excited, but the day before our hearing they realized that they had not complied with the ICWA. The hearing was canceled. I was able to connect the tribe and ICWA to help resolve the issue, and then a second hearing was scheduled. Our day in court came, and we didn't care that it had been over a year and more than $12k since we had begun the process. However, as we stood to hear our family recognized legally, the judge declared that he didn't have the paperwork required for him to grant the adoption. Our hearts sunk. He stated he was ready to grant our adoption and asked for suggestions. Our attorney requested that he grant it without another hearing, and thankfully he agreed. Our attorney was embarrassed and apologized. We told him it was okay, even though we were heartbroken. He reassured us that his firm would take care of everything, and that we wouldn't be charged for the paperwork since it should have been done beforehand. We felt this was fair, and appreciated his consideration. Then the paperwork began, and they had another associate work on it all. I will give our attorney from court some credit, as he didn't charge us for several conversations with him, but we were indeed charged for the paperwork. We don't understand what we paid for leading up to our court date, but in the end we are finally a family. The most difficult part of all of this was knowing that if we would have died during all of this, our son would have gone to the state. Thankfully God saw us through it all. We will not be using this firm for our next adoption.
