Worst experience ever. It’s bad enough they charge 40%, but can it be clarified to me how do they include money my insurance gave them per Sweet James request for my medical bills into their 40%calculation. I had to call for updates. They were always in meetings. Now the crazy thing about that is I was always given a different update by each individual. So what are the meetings for. They definitely weren’t for the purpose of communicating with each other. My advice, deal with the insurance company yourselves if you’re able to walk away from the accident. Use your own medical for your treatments. That way you can be assured of accurate billing. The insurance companies will pay them direct. Don’t let your pain and sufferings pay an attorney firm not looking out for your best interest. Trust me, they are not looking out for you. Another clue, if they are running commercials like crazy, part of your settlement is paying for those advertisements. Please do not make the mistake I made. If you choose to retain them, you’ll be the next one writing a review similar to this one. Full of regret, disappointment . That will be your settlement.

Sweet James Introduce

When searching for "Lawyers Near Me" in Los Angeles, individuals often seek reputable and effective legal representation to navigate complex legal issues, particularly in areas like personal injury. Sweet James, a law firm located at 355 S Grand Ave Suite 2450, Los Angeles, CA 90071, USA, operates within this category, offering legal services to the local community. The firm can be contacted at (800) 500-5200 or +1 800-500-5200. While the firm's prominent advertising might suggest a strong track record, it is crucial for prospective clients to consider all available information, including direct feedback from previous clients, to form a comprehensive understanding of the services provided.

The address at 355 S Grand Ave Suite 2450 places Sweet James in a downtown Los Angeles high-rise, a location common for legal practices. This setting typically offers a professional environment for client consultations and case management. However, the actual experience within the firm, as reflected in client reviews, warrants careful consideration. The following analysis is based on the provided customer feedback and aims to offer an objective perspective for those considering Sweet James for their legal needs.

Two detailed reviews from individuals who claim to have been clients of Sweet James paint a concerning picture of their experiences. One reviewer describes their experience as the "worst ever," citing a high contingency fee of 40% and expressing confusion and dissatisfaction with how their settlement was calculated, particularly regarding funds received from their own insurance for medical bills. This client alleges a lack of transparency in billing and poor communication, stating that updates were inconsistent and that their calls were often unanswered due to staff supposedly being in meetings. The reviewer strongly advises others to handle insurance claims themselves if possible and to be wary of the firm's motives, suggesting that the extensive advertising costs are ultimately borne by the clients through their settlements. This individual concludes with a strong warning against retaining Sweet James, predicting similar negative experiences for future clients.

The second review echoes severe dissatisfaction, giving a rating of zero stars if possible. This client recounts a nearly two-year ordeal following a rear-end car accident. Despite signing a settlement release months prior, they report extreme difficulty in obtaining updates on the status of their case, alleging being lied to and experiencing unprofessional interactions. A significant point of contention is the firm's alleged attempt to claim a substantial amount from the settlement for something the client's insurance supposedly covered, against the client's explicit instructions. The reviewer details weeks of unsuccessful attempts to contact the accounting department and expresses frustration with the lack of communication. This client states they are on the verge of taking legal action against Sweet James and have already retained another attorney. They further claim that despite being approved for a $100,000 settlement, delays and alleged mispractices have led to a situation where they feel "screwed over" by the firm. The reviewer also mentions a promised 5% reduction in legal fees due to the delays, which they now believe to be a lie. Their overall assessment is that Sweet James is self-serving and does not act in the best interests of their clients, strongly advising others to avoid the firm.

Based on these two customer reviews, several critical issues appear to be recurring themes:

  • High Contingency Fees: At least one reviewer explicitly mentions a 40% fee, which is a significant portion of any settlement.
  • Lack of Transparency in Billing: Questions are raised about how fees are calculated, particularly in relation to insurance payments for medical bills.
  • Poor Communication: Both reviewers report significant difficulties in getting updates on their cases and a lack of responsiveness from the firm's staff.
  • Inconsistent Information: One reviewer noted receiving different updates from different individuals within the firm, raising concerns about internal communication.
  • Questionable Practices: Allegations include attempting to claim funds for items covered by the client's own insurance and a general sense of the firm not acting in the client's best interest.
  • Delays in Settlement Disbursement: One client reported a prolonged period between signing the settlement release and receiving their funds.
  • Unprofessionalism: One reviewer explicitly mentions dealing with unprofessional interactions.

It is important to note that these reviews represent the experiences of only two individuals and may not be representative of every client's interaction with Sweet James. However, the detailed and strongly negative nature of these accounts should prompt prospective clients to exercise caution and conduct thorough due diligence before retaining this firm. The fact that one client is actively pursuing legal action against Sweet James and another is considering reporting them to the state bar association are serious indicators of significant dissatisfaction.

When searching for "Lawyers Near Me," it is advisable to look beyond prominent advertising and seek out a diverse range of feedback from various sources. While a central downtown location like 355 S Grand Ave Suite 2450 might seem appealing, the quality of legal service and client experience should be the paramount considerations. The environment of a law office extends beyond its physical location to include the professionalism, communication, and ethical practices of its staff.

Given the serious allegations raised in these reviews, potential clients considering Sweet James should:

  • Inquire specifically about the firm's contingency fee structure and how it is calculated. Ensure complete transparency regarding all potential costs and deductions from any settlement.
  • Ask detailed questions about the firm's communication protocols and expectations for receiving updates on their case. Clear and consistent communication is crucial for a positive attorney-client relationship.
  • Seek references or additional reviews from other clients to gain a broader perspective on the firm's services. Look for patterns or recurring themes in client feedback.
  • Consider consulting with other law firms in the "Lawyers Near Me" category to compare services, fees, and client experiences. Obtaining multiple opinions can help in making an informed decision.

In conclusion, while Sweet James has a presence in downtown Los Angeles at 355 S Grand Ave Suite 2450 and can be contacted at the provided phone numbers, the available customer reviews raise significant concerns about their practices, particularly regarding fees, communication, and client advocacy. Individuals searching for "Lawyers Near Me" should carefully weigh this feedback alongside any other information they may gather before deciding to retain this firm. It is always recommended to prioritize thorough research and due diligence when selecting legal representation to ensure your best interests are protected.

If i could put 0 stars i would . It's been almost two years since my accident. It was simple I got rear ended didn't cause and damage to anyone else. Signed my settlement released Jan 3rd. And now I call and call and call to see what's the status of my case. And I don't get a response. I know you guys at sweet james see this. So I'm going to let you guys know. I will be reporting you guys to the state bar association. I have been lied to. They tried to claim something that my insurance covered even though I told them numerous times to not do that because it had nothing to do with my accident. Yet they still tried to take 37000 dollars from. My settlement. They said I had to talk to account department and I have tried for three weeks to contact them and haven't gotten a call back. On top of that the amount of unprofessional interaction I have dealt with is ridiculous. I now am on the brink of taking legal actions against them. I already have an attorney that is chomping at the bits to get ahold of them. On top of that. I found out once you sign wht I previously stated. New documents cannot be submitted. Yet they keep telling me now that they are requesting documents for my case. Idk what's going on with case and when ever I say I need to speak to someone. They keep saying someone will call me. I'm going to go in office with my attorney REAL soon if they jeep trying to screw me over. U was approved for 100000 dollars. They were supposed to take their cut and my med bills were about 10 grand. And because it has been taking so long I was told by a "manager" that I will get 5% off my legal fees. Which I know at this point is a lie. Sweet james sucks. They don't do anything for you and they use you to get as much as they can. Which is fine. That's what lawyers do. But you can't just act like nothing happened. I hired you guys. Not the other way around. If it's not fixed extremely soon I will be taking legal actions. I'm not the one. I have all the proff I need to show said shady practices as well so this isn't going to go well if I'm continued to be screwed by this crooked firm

They cherry pick easy cases to take massive rewards for themselves. They don’t help people who need help with a case. Rejected my cousin’s case because it would require a bit of work. Their associates seen incompetent vague and led us on before rejecting case. If they don’t see $$$$ for themselves they just leave you hanging. Ambulance chasers. I don’t recommend.

I had 2 case managers. The first seemed ok, but Breanna Janssen took over halfway through the process. Breanna answers calls, texts and emails fast. She also explained everything to me both technically and in layman's terms. To summarize, the experience started mediocre but Breanna left me with complete satisfaction, 5 stars!
