One review expresses profound satisfaction, recounting a positive experience with both attorneys during a "complex criminal case" involving the client's boyfriend. The reviewer highly recommends Mr. Thomas and Michael Ashley, praising their "exceptional knowledge," "unwavering dedication," and "genuine compassion." According to this client, the attorneys clearly explained each step of the legal process, maintained consistent communication, and "fought tirelessly" for the best possible outcome. The reviewer credits their professionalism and empathy for making a significant positive impact on the case's result and expresses deep gratitude for their representation.
In stark contrast, a detailed review focuses specifically on the experience with Michael Ashley, Esq., describing it as "deeply troubling and harmful, both personally and professionally." This reviewer, acting as a pro se plaintiff in a civil case, alleges conduct that, in their opinion, fell "far short of ethical standards and professional competence." The review details a series of accusations, including the facilitation of actions that allegedly enabled fraud and manipulation by a third party. The reviewer claims that Michael Ashley knowingly allowed an out-of-state attorney not licensed in New Jersey to misrepresent himself and become involved in the case, causing confusion and enabling further fraudulent activities. The review also alleges a failure to disclose prior settlement discussions and the filing of a complaint with incorrect information.
Furthermore, the reviewer expresses disappointment with Michael Ashley's alleged lack of respect and transparency, particularly towards women and women of color. The review concludes with a strong negative recommendation, advising against hiring Michael Ashley, especially for women or individuals seeking fair and ethical representation, citing severe financial, emotional, and professional harm allegedly caused by his actions.
Given these two highly divergent reviews, it is challenging to provide a definitive assessment of the environment, services, and features of The Law Office of Thomas R. Ashley. The positive review suggests expertise, dedication, and compassion, particularly in criminal defense matters. The negative review, however, raises serious concerns about ethical conduct, professional competence, and client treatment in a civil case handled by Michael Ashley.

It is crucial to inquire specifically about the attorney who would be handling their case and to seek further information or references if possible. The contrasting experiences suggest that the quality of service and client experience may vary depending on the specific attorney within the office and the nature of the legal matter.
While the positive review highlights successful navigation of a complex criminal case, the negative review details serious allegations in a civil matter. Without more information about the firm's areas of specialization, it is difficult to ascertain the full scope of their legal services. However, based on the reviews, potential areas of practice may include criminal defense and civil litigation.

Mar 05, 2025 · Shenita MeyersReview of Michael Ashley, Esq. My experience with Michael Ashley has been deeply troubling and harmful, both personally and professionally. As a pro se plaintiff in case BER-6608-20, I witnessed conduct that, in my opinion, fell far short of ethical standards and professional competence. Michael Ashley knowingly facilitated actions that enabled my fraudulent ex-fiancé, Gerald Adams—who has a criminal background—to manipulate and exploit me and two other women in the group of plaintiffs. Gerald Adams used this opportunity to isolate us, relocate, and conceal his actions after defrauding me of hundreds of thousands of dollars. Michael allowed Gerald’s brother, Aaron Adams, an out-of-state criminal attorney from Texas, to misrepresent himself as the group’s attorney, even though Aaron was not admitted to practice law in New Jersey. Despite this, Michael participated in a meeting with the plaintiffs’ group, knowing they were already represented by another attorney, Gregory Preston. Michael then sent the group a retainer agreement and suggested that Aaron, who was not Pro Hac Vice, review it with them. This created unnecessary confusion and allowed Gerald to hijack the group and further his fraudulent schemes. Michael also failed to disclose prior settlement discussions to the plaintiffs, which led to false narratives targeting me and two other women. He then attempted to file a Fifth Amended Complaint with incorrect information about the dates of my closing, seemingly to conceal the fact that Aaron Adams had been practicing law in New Jersey without proper admission. As a biracial woman, I was particularly disheartened by Michael’s lack of respect and transparency toward women, especially women of color. His handling of this case demonstrated not only a lack of construction expertise but also a willingness to shield a known criminal at the expense of his clients. Instead of acting in the best interest of the plaintiffs, he treated the case as if it were a class action suit, prioritizing the protection of Gerald Adams while causing significant harm to me. I would never recommend Michael Ashley to anyone, particularly women or individuals seeking fair and ethical representation. His actions have caused me severe financial, emotional, and professional harm, and I believe his behavior in this case warrants serious scrutiny.
