I agree with the other 3 existing reviews, this man is a terrible judge (and I know what I am taking about, as I am a very experienced litigant). I had the displeasure of appearing at a motion hearing before this judge for the first time on Oct 20, 2023 via Zoom. It was clear that he did not read the motion papers at all (i.e. neither my opposition, nor even defense counsel's moving papers). He was completely unaware of the basis for the motion, which defense counsel had to spoon feed to this judge during oral argument. He then not only refused to let me explain the basis for my opposition before jumping to the incorrect conclusion (i.e he cut me off after only the first 2 sentences out of my mouth), he further was completely unprofessional in how he spoke to me. That is, he mocked the little bit that I was allowed to say, and then insulted me. When I tried to explain further, he told me to "shut up". Never in over 3 decades of my courtroom experiences (i.e. over 3 dozen cases and literally hundreds of court proceedings), has any other judge spoken to me in such an unprofessional manner. Then when I tried to explain the hardship that his unfair ruling would cause me, he again cut me off and callously refused to even hear what I had to say. Other reviewers have said that they had intended to file a complaint against this judge. I don't know if they ever went through with it or not, but based on my past experiences with the ACJC, they probably won't do anything unless and until dozens and dzens of more litigants come forward and file their complaints, as I intend to do now.

The available information primarily consists of customer reviews that express significant dissatisfaction with Valter H. Must, Esq., not in his capacity as a practicing attorney representing clients, but rather in his role as a judge during court proceedings. These reviews do not comment on his services as a lawyer but focus entirely on experiences in a judicial setting. Therefore, it is crucial to understand that the "features" discussed below relate to perceptions of his conduct as a judge, as described by litigants who appeared before him.
One reviewer, identifying as a "very experienced litigant," states their agreement with three other existing reviews, describing Mr. Must as a "terrible judge." This individual recounts attending a motion hearing via Zoom on October 20, 2023. Their experience suggests a perception that the judge had not reviewed the submitted motion papers, including their opposition and the defense counsel's moving papers, leading to a lack of awareness regarding the motion's basis, which reportedly had to be explained to him by defense counsel during oral argument.
Furthermore, this reviewer alleges that they were not allowed to fully explain their opposition, claiming they were interrupted after only two sentences. The review also describes the judge's demeanor as "completely unprofessional," including mocking and insulting remarks. The reviewer further states that when attempting to explain the potential hardship of the judge's ruling, they were again interrupted and told to "shut up." This individual contrasts this experience with over three decades of courtroom appearances, asserting that no other judge had ever spoken to them in such a manner. The reviewer also mentions intending to file a complaint with the ACJC (presumably the Advisory Committee on Judicial Conduct).
Another reviewer describes the judge as "partial" and expresses surprise at his continued presence in the courts. They characterize him as "very narcissistic with no conscience" and allege a significant relationship with a female lawyer that seemingly influenced his decisions, suggesting a lack of impartiality and a disregard for evidence. This reviewer believes that an investigation into his behaviors would erode public faith in the Ocean County NJ court system and mentions a newspaper editor's interest in their case and potentially others involving the same judge.
It is important to reiterate that these reviews pertain to experiences with Valter H. Must, Esq. in his capacity as a judge, not as a lawyer representing clients. Therefore, these comments do not provide insight into his potential environment, services, features, or promotional information as a legal practitioner. The information is solely focused on perceptions of his conduct on the bench.

Oct 23, 2023 · Steve DAgostinoPartial judge. I am surprised that in the 21st century he is allowed in the courts. Very narcistic with no conscience. He seemed to have a significant relationship with a female lawyer. I think further inquiries about his behaviors are indicated at this time. He doesn't bother looking at any evidence. His involvement with this female lawyer was enough to make a decision at the start of the case. I am sure that if his actions would be investigated, as they should be, it would cause many to loose faith in the court system in Ocean County NJ. A newspaper editor reached out to me, as she heard about my case. (I assumed other cases with this judge as well, but I am not sure.) I think she may have something to unravel.
Apr 10, 2022 · Chaya RosmarinIf I could I’d give negative stars. I completely agree with all of the reviewers. He doesn’t read facts or information or anything you give him. He’s lazy, incompetent, very pretentious and has no problem ruining someone’s life and mental health cause of it. I would love for him to be removed from that high horse he thinks he belongs on and get back down where he belongs, perhaps he could use some type of educational counseling to learn how to deal with family law. I’m sure I’m not the only person that was treated unfairly and can honestly say there is no fair justice or understanding to any situation. He just wants to clear his calendar and screw over the next contestant on the @“&$ show he entertains. Yea nj is not a father state but us fathers do need to pay and shut up as we fall in line for what seems like child support being more of a business. Call child support’s number ask yourself why are the defendants or people who pay referred to as customers? I’d say to all judges “don’t judge lest ye be judged yourself”!!!
Feb 03, 2023 · JThis attorney has been made a judge In Ocean County family division nobody with his temperament and lack of discretion should be made a judge. I will be filing a complaint against him. I would not be surprised if I’m not the only one . On the record he compard me to another litigant from another case completely inappropriate and has a predisposed hatred to anybody wanting to represent themselves.
Jul 17, 2020 · Ken AlexanderRefuses to follow state guidelines and makes up his own biased rules and then threatens you if you seek justice for unfairness. This judge only favors women even if they are the guilty party. If you are a man, change your venue. You WILL NOT have a fair court room.
