I am an immigrant advocate in the Bay Area. I have been a client of Van Der Hout LLP since 2020. I meanly advocate for people with criminal conviction who are facing deportation order. Out of the 4 cases I hired Ven Der Hout LLP for, they successfully stopped 2 deportation and got their green cards back and 2 of the cases are still ongoing. They are the best immigration attorneys in this country. I haven't seen any one come closer to do what they can do with their vast knowledge and skills. Special thanks to Marc and Johnny who got my green card back after I was ordered for deportation. I will continue to advocate for immigrants in the new trump administration and will bring all of my cases to Van Der Hout LLP.

Van Der Hout LLP Introduce

For individuals and families in the San Francisco Bay Area navigating the complexities of immigration law, finding knowledgeable and effective legal representation is paramount. Van Der Hout LLP, situated at 360 Post St suite 800, San Francisco, CA 94108, USA, has established a reputation, particularly within the immigrant advocacy community, for its work in immigration matters, especially deportation defense. Operating under the "Lawyers Near Me" platform category, Van Der Hout LLP offers specialized legal services to those facing challenging immigration situations.

Located in a professional building on Post Street, Van Der Hout LLP likely provides a dedicated and confidential environment for client consultations and legal work. While specific details about the office ambiance are not extensively described online, law firms typically maintain a setting conducive to serious legal discussions and the handling of sensitive information. The downtown San Francisco location offers accessibility for clients throughout the Bay Area seeking specialized immigration legal assistance.

Based on the available client reviews, the services offered by Van Der Hout LLP appear to focus significantly on immigration law, with notable experience in the following areas:

Deportation Defense: One client, an immigrant advocate, specifically highlighted the firm's success in stopping deportation orders and securing green cards for clients with criminal convictions. This suggests a strong specialization and a track record of achieving positive outcomes in complex deportation cases.

Green Card Acquisition: The successful acquisition of green cards for clients facing deportation indicates expertise in this critical area of immigration law.

FOIA Requests: The mention of processing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests suggests the firm assists clients in obtaining information from government agencies, which can be relevant in various immigration proceedings.

Several features of Van Der Hout LLP are evident from the client feedback:

Specialized Immigration Expertise: The positive review from an immigrant advocate emphasizes the firm's "vast knowledge and skills" in immigration law, particularly in challenging deportation cases.

Track Record of Success: The reported success in stopping deportation for two out of four cases handled for the reviewing advocate suggests a demonstrated ability to achieve favorable outcomes for clients in difficult situations.

Dedication to Immigrant Advocacy: The firm's work with an immigrant advocate who intends to continue bringing cases to them, even under a new administration, indicates a strong commitment to serving the immigrant community.

However, it is crucial to also consider the less positive feedback provided by another client. This review highlights potential areas of concern regarding the firm's:

Initial Consultation Costs: The initial consultation fee was reported to be significantly higher than other attorneys considered.

Communication and Efficiency: The late arrival for the initial consultation and subsequent issues with communication regarding paperwork and FOIA requests raise concerns about organizational efficiency and client communication.

Case Assessment: The client reported paying a substantial amount for work done before being informed that they did not have a viable case, without any paperwork being filed.

Administrative Processes: Issues with the mailing of FOIA paperwork due to an incorrect address and delays in initiating administrative steps were also noted.

Refund Process: Difficulties in obtaining the unused portion of the retainer, including an incorrect address on the returned check, suggest potential issues with financial administration.

Considering both positive and negative feedback is essential for an objective understanding of Van Der Hout LLP. The positive review strongly praises their expertise and success in complex deportation cases, suggesting they possess significant skills in this niche area of immigration law. This could be a major draw for individuals facing similar high-stakes situations.

On the other hand, the negative review raises concerns about the initial costs, communication, efficiency, and case assessment processes. Potential clients should be aware of these reported issues and may want to inquire specifically about the firm's consultation fees, communication protocols, and how they assess the viability of a case before incurring significant costs.

For local users on the "Lawyers Near Me" platform seeking immigration law expertise, particularly in deportation defense, Van Der Hout LLP's reported successes in this area, as highlighted by one reviewer, could be a significant factor in their decision. The firm's location in downtown San Francisco also offers accessibility for many in the Bay Area.

Prospective clients are encouraged to contact Van Der Hout LLP at (415) 981-3000 or +1 415-981-3000 to discuss their specific immigration needs. It would be prudent to inquire about consultation fees upfront and to discuss the firm's processes for case evaluation, communication, and handling administrative matters. While the positive review speaks highly of their expertise in certain complex immigration cases, the concerns raised in the other review warrant careful consideration and direct communication with the firm to address any potential reservations.

In conclusion, Van Der Hout LLP, located on Post Street in San Francisco, appears to specialize in immigration law, with notable reported success in deportation defense and green card acquisition. For individuals facing these specific challenges, their expertise may be a valuable asset. However, potential clients should also be aware of the concerns raised regarding consultation costs, communication, efficiency, and administrative processes, and should conduct thorough due diligence before engaging their services.

The initial consult was about twice what any other attorney I've looked at charged ($500), but in spite of some miscommunication where the attorneys showed up very late that consult went well and they told me I had a case and they had a legal argument to help me. But after an additional roughly thousand dollars of "work" they came to the conclusion that they couldn't. We never even submitted any paperwork or anything and "working" with this law firm cost me around fifteen hundred dollars after all was said and done. After I was told I actually didn't really have a case I got a call from their office about some paperwork they'd mailed for some foia requests. Apparently they'd been returned because my address wasn't found. But 1. they'd already told me there wasn't a case to move forward with so the paperwork was irrelevant 2. I wasn't even told about this paperwork and if I had been, I would have just gone in person to sign because time was of the essence and 3. time was of the essence and they hadn't even bothered to do that first administrative step until several weeks in. That should have happened on day 1 because it takes some weeks to get the request back and I had limited time to submit my application. Because we never actually did anything with them most of the money we'd put in reserves was left, and it took us calling more than once to get that back and when we did the address was wrong. It surprisingly still made it to us even though the mistake, which was in fairness only one letter, created a different street name. I was excited to work with this firm after a positive initial meeting but I just didn't feel that they had it together. We weren't hearing anything about my case even though we had really very limited time.

Gunther is amazing! He expertly answered all my questions regarding immigration and provided appropriate solutions. He is very responsive to my emails. Although my work visa approval was slightly delayed due to the company's lack of responsiveness, Gunther handled it exceptionally well. And the visa is approved now. This is my second time using Van Der Hout LLP's services, and both attorneys have been incredibly reliable. Thank you!

My experiences with the firm starting out great but then things went side ways. The first attorney was very responsive both to emails and appointments. Generally I got responses the next day. However she retired so I was assigned a new attorney. Things are super slow with the change. The new attorney takes 2-3 days to respond emails. Her appointments need to be set 1-2 weeks ahead. She didn't even show up in a recent meeting that she requested without any notice and could not be reached. I get that people have different working styles, but this "no-show" is very unprofessional and inappropriate.

Thanks to Lawyer Chestnut and all the team at Van Der Hout LLP, especially Giselle are just amazing, professional, dedicated and I can go on and on. This is beyond what I can just put into writing. We just got our second E2 Visa for an other member of our family. So thank you so much !! We absolutely appreciate all the hard work and long hours to get the job done.
