During what was undoubtedly one of the most challenging times of my life, Melissa Zemsky proved to be an invaluable support. She navigated through my divorce process with honesty, sensitivity and grace. Melissa was thorough in her approach, making sure I understood all my options for alimony and child custody. Her genuine care and empathy made a significant difference in my experience. She has been a true blessing in my life. Melissa’s professionalism and timely communication helped alleviate my stress in this emotional process. She truly cares for her clients. I am deeply grateful for her service and highly recommend her to anyone facing similar circumstances.

I want to start by saying I received desirable results in my case. However, this had nothing to do with Melissa, it was only because the law was on my side and the judge’s decision strictly followed the law. I am writing this review because I had an extremely unpleasant experience with Melissa as a professional. I don’t want others making the same mistake I did in believing her bio on her website. She highlights compassion and advocacy, which is what I was looking for in a lawyer because I already had gone through enough in my divorce process. As alluded to in some of the other reviewers’ comments, she presents with the complete opposite. Not only is her communication style hostile and she makes accusatory/judgemental comments, but her behavior is shockingly immature and reeks of insecurity. Overall, Melissa brought nothing but stress and hostility to an already stressful process. I would strongly advise against seeking her services. For those interested, below are some specific examples of the behaviors experienced. Hostility: When I would try to speak to discuss my case, she would constantly interrupt me. She also met some of my questions and responses to her questions with sarcasm. Melissa was also very dismissive of my thoughts about the case and would undermine my opinion. She would later come back with the same idea in another conversation as if it were her own. If I called her on these behaviors she would either continue speaking over me or grunt in annoyance. Questions that I asked seeking clarity on my case were met with sighs, sarcasm, and even eye rolls. At one point, I threatened to fire her and she blamed her poor behavior on a personal situation she experienced that morning. I gave her the benefit because we are all human, and her behaviors improved somewhat, but it was very obvious from the continued grunts, sighs, and eye rolls that she deeply struggles to manage her emotions. Throughout the entire process it felt like I was communicating with a struggling teenager, not a seasoned professional. Accusations: During conversations, she would make accusatory statements like “you only care about getting money” (or some variation of this, this one came up in every conversation) or she would question my motives for moving to the location where I filed for divorce. Mind you, I was the defendant in this case, and my child support order was already settled elsewhere a few months ago. I was not seeking anything, just to maintain what had already been very recently settled. When I addressed these behaviors she would respond with “I don’t care either way, I just want to know”. Instead of feeling supported and validated, I constantly felt like I had to defend and explain myself to her to get her on my side and defend my case. It was quite unsettling and stressful to constantly have to do this. Overall competence: On top of these behaviors, Melissa waited until 1 business day before my cross-motion was due to review my case and ask for additional evidence. This is despite the fact that I had retained her and provided her with my written statement over 1.5 months earlier, and sent 2 follow up emails asking if she needed anything else in that time. The evidence requested involved obtaining documents from my previous lawyer and translating those documents. When I expressed that I could not provide the evidence requested she responded with annoyance and kept repeating that if she had those documents the case would be a slam dunk, something I had no control over due to the timing. I have zero confidence Melissa would have had the competence to successfully handle my case had the law not been as clearly on my side. I reiterate that I do not recommend hiring Melissa due to her hostile, accusatory, and overall unprofessional behavior.

First, I want to say that I am not a person that leaves reviews for people, so this one is important to me. After over year of debating divorce a close friend recommended for me to reach out to Melissa. After just a few minutes into the call I knew that she was going to be the person to go through this process with. She explained the process to me step by step, while remaining completely honest and open. Throughout the whole divorce process, Melissa would keep me informed and updated every step of the way and quickly responds to emails and phone calls. Once we started proceedings Melissa, fought hard for everything that was important to me and even thing that I wouldn’t have even thought of, but should have. Melissa was extremely knowledge and knew everything that she needed to do to win me the best outcome. Throughout the process Melissa would explain the process from top to bottom and the outlooks for each step based on the law and whether the battle was even worth fighting over. Saving me thousands of dollars in the end. Knowing that she is only one phone call away gives me such peace that I can live my life without fear. Melissa is not just going to be your attorney for you, she has become part of my family. Melissa helped me through one of the toughest moments in my life and I would and will recommend her to anyone. You cannot and will not go wrong with Melissa!

I was putting off moving forward with my divorce for a long time because the thought of moving forward was too stressful and overwhelming to me.  A close friend of mine who used Melissa for her divorce referred me to her.  As soon as we met, I was comfortable and had full confidence that she was going to handle everything from the start to finish, and I would not have a worry or concern.  That is exactly what happened.  From the start, Melissa fully explained to me the law and what my expectations should be.  Melissa was straight forward, direct and moved quickly.  She delivered on my expectations and then some. Melissa was a strong advocate to the end. Her fees were more than reasonable and fair, and she did not bill me for every email and call.  Melissa was able to get me a wonderful financial result; more than I ever imagined.  A heavy weight has now been lifted off my shoulders thanks to her.
