I was guilty as hell. I obtained Mike. Went over every air tight process. I know everyone says this but Hanover county had no evidence. The judge said this in court. On my first appearance in court Mike lied to me about DNA on a cigarette. I never had a lawyer lie to me before so I took the plea. Please anyone who reads this. Lawyers are allowed to lie to you...you can fight the bar for years...they will issue a investigation & reprimand. Mike lying to me was my fault. Anyone who reads this...don't listen to these people. Don't think motion for discovery has to have anything in it other than some general stutt. Don't let these lawyers scare you or bully you just because your another piece of paper on his desk he wants to get rid of. Wait until it goes upstairs or wait until you know everything the prosecutor knows. Not by your lawyers word...but by the paper that was given to your lawyer. Your sentence is determined by your guidelines. But lack of evidence or no evidence...you will not get a not guilty...Mike or your lawyer does not want to go to trial..if your lucky they will not process...either way..I'm saying Mike being a horrible person....is not on him...I signed the sweet deal the prosecutor gave me...not Mike. he coerced me to sign it but he didn't have a gun or threatened me...I signed it. I made a rookie move...never again. Don't misinterpret my message...I was guilty as hell & I received a year an a half. Really good deal. My review is be cautious Mike not the prosecutor or police who are the usual exaggerators...he lied to me. This was the first time. I've gotten out of trouble for 20 years...but Mike you got me good on this one. What did president bush say...Shame on me...AAA..ummm.. you can't get fooled again.

  • Criminal Defense: Representing individuals accused of crimes, as indicated by the client's statement "I was guilty as hell. I obtained Mike" and references to court appearances, prosecutors, and plea deals. The case involved issues of evidence, including "DNA on a cigarette," suggesting a focus on handling complex criminal matters.

  • Plea Negotiations: The review details the process of the client signing a "sweet deal the prosecutor gave me," indicating the firm's involvement in negotiating plea agreements on behalf of clients.

  • Guidance on Evidence and Discovery: The client's discussion about "motion for discovery" and knowing "everything the prosecutor knows" suggests that the firm handles the discovery phase of criminal cases, which involves obtaining evidence from the prosecution.

  • Trial Preparation (or lack thereof, from client's perspective): The client's concern about lawyers not wanting "to go to trial" and the emphasis on getting information directly, not "by your lawyers word," points to the firm's role in guiding clients through the decision of whether to proceed to trial or accept a plea.

While the specific range of all practice areas is not explicitly stated beyond what is inferred from the review, it is common for attorneys engaged in criminal defense to also handle related areas such as traffic violations or other misdemeanor cases. For precise details on the full scope of services offered by Clower Michael, individuals in Virginia are encouraged to contact the office directly for a consultation.

Features / Highlights
  • Involvement in Criminal Defense: The provided review confirms that Clower Michael handles criminal defense cases, including those with complex evidence and plea negotiations.

  • Engagement in Plea Bargaining: The client explicitly states signing a "sweet deal the prosecutor gave me," indicating the firm's role in facilitating plea agreements.

  • Navigating Court Proceedings: The client's experience of being in court and discussing evidence ("Hanover county had no evidence. The judge said this in court") highlights the firm's involvement in courtroom appearances.

It is crucial for potential clients to consider the following points raised in the detailed client review, as they provide significant insights into the client's experience with the firm's approach:

  • Allegation of Misleading Information: A primary concern raised by the client is the assertion that "Mike lied to me about DNA on a cigarette" on their first court appearance. The client states, "I never had a lawyer lie to me before so I took the plea." This is a significant point of contention for the client.

  • Perception of Coercion: The client felt "coerced me to sign it," referring to the plea deal, despite acknowledging that no physical threats were made. This highlights a concern about the persuasive tactics used in the decision-making process.

  • Concerns About Lawyer's Motivation for Trial: The client expressed a strong opinion that "Mike or your lawyer does not want to go to trial," suggesting a preference for plea agreements over litigation, potentially to "get rid of" a "piece of paper on his desk."

  • Emphasis on Client Due Diligence: The client's repeated advice, "Don't listen to these people. Don't think motion for discovery has to have anything in it other than some general stutt. Don't let these lawyers scare you or bully you... Wait until it goes upstairs or wait until you know everything the prosecutor knows. Not by your lawyers word...but by the paper that was given to your lawyer," strongly advises future clients to verify information independently and to not rely solely on the lawyer's word, particularly regarding evidence and discovery.

  • Client's Self-Reflection on Decision: Despite the criticisms, the client acknowledges, "Mike lying to me was my fault. ... I signed the sweet deal the prosecutor gave me... not Mike. ... I signed it. I made a rookie move... never again. ... I was guilty as hell & I received a year an a half. Really good deal." This shows the client ultimately accepts responsibility for signing the plea but maintains the concern about the alleged dishonesty.

Promotions or Special Offers

There is no publicly available information or client feedback that indicates any specific promotions or special offers from Clower Michael. In the realm of criminal defense, it is common for attorneys to discuss their fee structures during an initial consultation. This may involve a flat fee for certain types of cases, hourly rates, or other arrangements, depending on the complexity and expected duration of the legal matter.

For individuals in Ashland and the broader Virginia area seeking legal assistance, it is always recommended to contact Clower Michael's office directly. During this initial discussion, you can inquire about their fee arrangements, whether they offer free or reduced-fee consultations, and clarify any questions regarding the costs associated with their services. Given the detailed nature of the client review, it is particularly important for potential clients to have a very transparent conversation about all aspects of representation, including communication protocols and expectations regarding the handling of evidence and trial strategy, before engaging the firm.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

For residents of Ashland and the broader Virginia region seeking legal representation, particularly in criminal defense matters, Clower Michael offers a local presence and engagement in the legal process. The client review indicates that the firm is involved in negotiating plea deals and appearing in court, suggesting an active role in representing clients in the Hanover County judicial system. The fact that the client received a "really good deal" in terms of their sentence, despite their guilt, highlights that the firm can achieve favorable outcomes in plea negotiations.

However, it is crucial for potential local clients to approach engagement with Clower Michael with a heightened awareness of the specific concerns raised in the detailed client feedback. The allegations of misleading information regarding evidence and the strong advice to "not listen to these people" and to verify information directly from paper rather than "by your lawyers word" are significant points. For locals, trust and transparency are fundamental in legal relationships, and such feedback necessitates careful consideration. The client's perception that lawyers may prefer plea deals over trials, and the advice to be assertive in demanding full discovery, are also important insights into the firm's operational approach, as perceived by this client.

Therefore, while Clower Michael can secure plea agreements that clients deem "good deals," prospective clients in Virginia, especially in criminal defense scenarios, should prioritize a thorough and assertive inquiry into communication practices, trial strategy, and the handling of discovery. It is vital to establish clear expectations from the outset regarding how information will be shared, how evidence will be reviewed, and the firm's willingness to pursue a trial if it aligns with the client's best interests. For those who are prepared to be highly proactive in their own case management and communication with their attorney, Clower Michael may offer a path to a negotiated outcome. However, the client's detailed warning serves as a critical guide for any Virginia resident considering this firm for their legal needs.
