Based on available public information, the services offered by HKM Employment Attorneys LLP include:
Discrimination Claims: Representing employees who have experienced discrimination based on protected characteristics such as race, gender, age, religion, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, and more. This includes discrimination in hiring, promotion, pay, and termination.
Sexual Harassment: Advocating for individuals who have been subjected to unwelcome sexual advances, inappropriate conduct, or a hostile work environment.
Wrongful Termination: Assisting employees who believe they were unlawfully fired, whether due to discrimination, retaliation, breach of contract, or violation of public policy.
Wage and Overtime Disputes: Helping employees recover unpaid wages, overtime pay, commissions, and other earned compensation that was withheld or miscalculated by employers.
Retaliation: Representing employees who have faced adverse employment actions as a result of engaging in protected activities, such as reporting discrimination, whistleblowing, or taking FMLA leave.

Severance Agreement Review and Negotiation: Advising employees on proposed severance packages and negotiating favorable terms to protect their interests upon departure from a company.
HKM Employment Attorneys LLP possesses several features and highlights that position them as a strong choice for employees seeking legal assistance in New York. While one review points to a potential issue with initial intake communication, other testimonials and the firm's overall profile emphasize significant strengths.
National Firm, Local Presence: HKM is a national employment law firm, which means they bring extensive resources, experience from a wide range of cases across the country, and a deep bench of legal talent to their New York clients. This national scope often translates into a more comprehensive understanding of federal employment laws and broader industry trends.
Employee-Focused Advocacy: The firm explicitly states its dedication to representing employees. This singular focus means their entire practice is geared towards understanding and fighting for the rights of workers, rather than juggling both employer and employee clients, which can sometimes create conflicts of interest.
Positive Client Experience (for some): One client specifically praises "Rita Cherry" for handling their case "greatly," leading to a strong recommendation for using HKM. This highlights that when a client is engaged, the firm is capable of delivering excellent service and positive results.
Reputation for Getting the Job Done: The positive review, "they get the job done," indicates that for some clients, the firm has effectively achieved their desired legal outcomes.
Accessibility and Responsiveness (for some): The same positive review notes, "They are easy to get in contact with...they respond quickly." While contradicted by the negative review, this suggests that when the firm takes on a case, responsiveness is a priority for some attorneys.
Wide Range of Practice Areas: As a dedicated employment law firm, they cover a broad spectrum of issues from discrimination and harassment to wage and FMLA concerns, making them a comprehensive resource for many types of workplace disputes.
As with many specialized law firms, especially those representing employees, HKM Employment Attorneys LLP typically does not advertise traditional "promotions" or "special offers" in the way a retail business might. However, they likely provide valuable services that are inherently beneficial to potential clients seeking legal assistance for workplace issues.
Common practices in the legal field that can be considered valuable "offers" include:
Initial Consultations: Many employment law firms offer initial consultations to prospective clients. This allows individuals to discuss the specifics of their workplace issue, understand their legal options, and determine if the firm is the right fit. While the negative review mentions a communication breakdown in the initial intake process, it's common for firms like HKM to aim to provide these consultations as a first step in evaluating a case. It’s an opportunity for the firm to assess the viability of a claim and for the potential client to gain clarity on their situation.
Contingency Fee Arrangements: For many types of employee-side employment cases (e.g., discrimination, wrongful termination, wage theft), law firms often work on a contingency fee basis. This means the client does not pay attorney fees upfront, and the firm only gets paid if they successfully recover damages for the client, either through a settlement or a judgment. This can be a significant benefit for individuals who may not have the financial resources to pay hourly legal fees.
Transparent Fee Structures: Reputable law firms strive for transparency regarding their fee structures. While specific details should be confirmed directly with HKM, clarity on how legal fees will be charged (e.g., hourly, flat fee for specific tasks, or contingency) is an important offering that helps clients manage expectations and make informed decisions.
To learn about the specific fee arrangements, consultation policies, and how HKM Employment Attorneys LLP can assist with your particular case, it is always recommended to directly contact their New York office. They can provide the most accurate and up-to-date information relevant to your situation.

May 15, 2025 · Lisa SabsRita Cherry did a great handling my case, would highly recommend using HKM!
Mar 06, 2025 · Tawana CarterI want to thank Artemio Guerra and Cecilia for helping me out with my case. It was a complex case and therefore it took a little longer than expected (about a year and a half to conclude) but the results were very favorable! Also, they both speak Spanish, which is a huge plus for someone that has Spanish as first language!
Jun 10, 2024 · Mildred DuenasDon't even waste your time with this law firm. From the intake specialists to the paralegal, just incompetent. I am not sure if part of it was perhaps a language barrier or they were just bad listeners, dealing with them was annoying. I called them about a discrimination case a few days later, a woman named Julia Friday reached out to me. I explained everything to her, and she asked a bunch of questions, and I provided responses to all of them. I even confirmed I had a lot of evidence to back up my claim. Also she had so many questions about whether I took breaks or not, she focused a lot on unpaid breaks. I told her my case was discrimination and retaliation. She said they were very interested in my case, okay great. She emailed me a few days later and confirmed a time so I could speak with the attorney. We both agreed on a time. When the time came, she called again because apparently the attorney was not available, once again asked a bunch of questions. She was again focused on lost wages and unpaid breaks rather than the real issues at hand and consistently mixing up the information I provided to her with perhaps other potential clients and claimed she was just taking notes, okay but whatever you were repeating back to me was not what I told you. It was getting very annoying, just keep having to repeat myself. I even asked her if she wanted me to send her a short narrative so the lawyer could get a better understanding, she said no, let’s hold off on that. At some point, she also asked if she could speak with the witnesses. All this time, they still have not confirmed or agreed if the firm would take on my case smh. Long story short, after that last phone call, I already knew they were not a good fit for me. I immediately reached out to other firms and 3 firms were actually interested in my case based on the evidence I had and confirmed they were willing to take on the case. That alone already confirmed I had a strong case. About a week later Julia reached out again to confirm “ Unfortunately” they could not take on my case. I told her based on our conversations I had already moved on. Thanks!
