I wish I could give 0 stars. In hopes I save another persons time and money, I’ll write my experience. I seeked Lawrence Law Office to have legal representation during a dissolution. I had no idea what I was doing nor what I was getting myself into. I was very transparent at the beginning that I had no clue what I was doing. I paid the $5,000 retainer fee. What I wasn’t aware but it was in the little fine print (always read the fine print) I was to keep $5,000 in the account at all times. No one told me that. They didn’t “bill” me until 3 months in. They took the majority out of my retainer and wanted me to replenish. I was sent an invoice statement on a Wednesday afternoon. I had a scheduled phone conference with Linda the next morning on a Thursday. I figured I would speak to her prior to paying. Thursday morning they already deducted $500 out of my personal checking account without any notice. I never gave explicit permission to deduct any invoice amounts without a forewarning. I replenished my account again with another $500 when I said I would. Less than a month later I got yet another invoice statement. It said I owed $450. I called and spoke with Stephanie who seemed to be the only one I spoke to the most. She said it would be ok and it wouldn’t be taken out. However, it did. She was very apologetic and seemed genuine. They explained nothing to me, they would send documents over for me to look over. They had me come in to sign affidavits but ended up charging me $250 out of my retainer for me to come there and sign my name on two separate documents. When I went there I was greeted by someone else I haven’t spoken to, again, not Linda. I had multiple people on my case. 5.5 months and I spoke with Linda, my attorney, a total of 2 times. Every time I would call, I would ask how much more I would be needing to spend to get this dissolution finalized. I was told multiple times that, “this amount should be enough..” I was also told that the attorney would work with me on not making this more costly than needed. None of which was true. In July 2024 I was told $1000 more would be enough to finish this dissolution. I didn’t have $1000. But I ended up taking a line of credit out to appease them in hopes this would resolve the remainder of my case. But 2 weeks, if even that, they went through apparently $850 of that $1000 because I got another invoice statement. At this point I knew there was no end in sight. I spent $7450 and that was apparently just paperwork. None of this was court costs, at all. After the last invoice I got, I knew I was going to have to tell them I no longer needed their services. After this time and money I’m left with no legal representation, more debt than I entered this with, and I’m no closer to being divorced than I was to start with. I would have appreciated a little more compassion and transparency from someone I paid to represent me. For $450 an hour one would expect to be satisfied at the conclusion. If you have money to burn and time to waste this is the law firm for you.

Lawrence Law Office Introduce

For residents across Ohio, the need for legal representation can arise from a variety of circumstances, often during significant life transitions such as a dissolution or other family law matters. When seeking an attorney, local users prioritize clarity, reliable communication, and transparent financial practices to ensure a smooth and effective legal process. In Columbus, Ohio, Lawrence Law Office operates as a legal service provider. This article provides an overview of the firm, drawing on publicly available information and detailed client feedback to help Ohioans understand their services and reported client experiences. Understanding these aspects is a crucial step for anyone in Ohio considering legal counsel.

When evaluating legal representation, insights from previous clients are critically important for Ohio residents. Lawrence Law Office has received highly contrasting reviews, which potential clients should carefully consider. One client shared a very negative and detailed account of their experience seeking representation for a dissolution: "I wish I could give 0 stars. In hopes I save another person's time and money, I’ll write my experience." This client, who was transparent about having "no idea what I was doing," paid a $5,000 retainer fee. A major point of contention was an undisclosed requirement to "keep $5,000 in the account at all times," which was only discovered in the "little fine print." The client reported not being billed for three months, after which the majority of the retainer was deducted, and replenishment was requested. A particularly alarming incident involved an unauthorized deduction: "Thursday morning they already deducted $500 out of my personal checking account without any notice. I never gave explicit permission to deduct any invoice amounts without a forewarning."

Further issues included a lack of consistent communication with their assigned attorney, Linda, whom they spoke with "a total of 2 times" over "5.5 months." The client also noted being charged $250 for signing two documents, and frequently being told that "this amount should be enough" to finalize the dissolution, which proved untrue. Despite taking out a line of credit for an additional $1,000, $850 was used in "2 weeks, if even that," leading to the realization "there was no end in sight." The client ultimately spent "$7450 and that was apparently just paperwork. None of this was court costs, at all." This experience left the client with "no legal representation, more debt than I entered this with, and I’m no closer to being divorced than I was to start with." The review concluded with a strong cautionary note: "If you have money to burn and time to waste this is the law firm for you." This detailed account highlights significant concerns regarding financial transparency, communication, and overall client satisfaction.

In contrast, another review offered positive feedback, specifically praising a staff member: "I've recently contacted this office and Carly has gone above and beyond. She's a wonderful person and strives to help you as much as you can. I would strongly suggest if you need a family lawyer to call and ask for Carly. Like I said before she is a very helpful, informative, and personable person." This review, while positive, focuses on the support provided by a non-attorney staff member rather than the overall legal representation or financial practices of the firm itself. These divergent perspectives are critical for Ohio residents to evaluate when considering Lawrence Law Office.

Lawrence Law Office is conveniently located at 496 S 3rd St, Columbus, OH 43215, USA. This address places the firm within the easily accessible and professional district of downtown Columbus, Ohio. For residents throughout the city and surrounding areas, this central location provides practical convenience for accessing legal services.

South 3rd Street is a well-known thoroughfare in Columbus, making the firm's office relatively easy to locate. For clients traveling by personal vehicle, downtown Columbus typically offers various parking options, including metered street parking and numerous public parking garages in close proximity to the office building. While specific parking details are always best confirmed upon scheduling an appointment, the area is generally well-equipped for vehicular access. Additionally, Columbus's robust public transportation system, including COTA bus routes, serves the downtown area extensively, providing convenient alternatives for clients who prefer not to drive. The firm's location within the city's professional core also means it is often near other essential services and amenities, enhancing the overall convenience for clients during their legal proceedings. This strategic and accessible address ensures that Ohioans seeking legal assistance can easily locate and reach Lawrence Law Office.

Based on the provided client reviews, Lawrence Law Office appears to primarily handle family law matters, specifically focusing on dissolutions and other related family legal issues. While a comprehensive list of all specific services offered is not available from the provided information, the client testimonials indicate involvement in the following areas:

  • Dissolution Proceedings: One detailed review explicitly states, "I seeked Lawrence Law Office to have legal representation during a dissolution." This indicates that the firm assists clients in navigating the process of legal dissolution of marriage, which often involves agreements on property division, spousal support, and child custody/support.

  • General Family Law: The positive review specifically recommends calling and asking for Carly "if you need a family lawyer." This suggests that family law, in general, is a core practice area for the firm, likely encompassing divorce, child custody, child support, spousal support, and other domestic relations matters.

It is important for potential clients in Ohio to note that while these areas are indicated as being handled by the firm, the detailed nature of these services and the overall client experience can vary significantly based on the attorney assigned and the firm's internal practices, as suggested by the contrasting reviews. Prospective clients should directly inquire about the specifics of their family law needs and the firm's approach to such cases.

The features and highlights of Lawrence Law Office, as described by clients, present a highly contrasting picture, which prospective clients in Ohio should consider thoroughly:

  • Supportive Staff Member (Positive View): One client specifically praised Carly, stating she "has gone above and beyond," is "a wonderful person," and "strives to help you as much as you can." This highlights a positive interaction with at least one staff member who is described as "very helpful, informative, and personable." This indicates that some individuals within the firm provide excellent client service.

  • Lack of Financial Transparency and Unauthorized Deductions (Negative View): A significant concern raised by a client revolves around a lack of transparency regarding the retainer fee, specifically an undisclosed requirement to "keep $5,000 in the account at all times." More critically, the client reported an unauthorized deduction of $500 from their personal checking account without prior notice or explicit permission. This points to serious issues with billing practices and financial communication.

  • Poor Attorney-Client Communication (Negative View): The client reported speaking with their assigned attorney, Linda, "a total of 2 times" over "5.5 months." This indicates a severe lack of direct and consistent communication from the lead attorney, which is crucial for client understanding and peace of mind during a legal process. The client also noted having "multiple people on my case" and often being "greeted by someone else I haven’t spoken to, again, not Linda."

  • Misleading Cost Estimates (Negative View): The client was "told multiple times that, 'this amount should be enough..'" to finalize the dissolution, which proved untrue. This resulted in unexpected and escalating costs, leading to increased debt. This highlights a critical issue with providing accurate cost projections.

  • Billing for Basic Tasks and Lack of Value (Negative View): The client was charged $250 out of their retainer for simply coming in to "sign my name on two separate documents." This raised concerns about excessive billing for basic administrative tasks and a lack of perceived value for the money spent, with "$7450" spent on "just paperwork" and "no closer to being divorced."

  • Lack of Compassion and Transparency (Negative View): The client expressed a desire for "a little more compassion and transparency from someone I paid to represent me," indicating a disconnect in client care and open communication regarding the legal process and associated costs.

These contrasting points are derived directly from the provided client testimonials and represent the reported experiences with Lawrence Law Office. Potential clients in Ohio should thoroughly weigh these divergent perspectives when considering legal representation.

Information regarding specific promotions or special offers for Lawrence Law Office is not available in the provided public data. As is customary for professional legal firms, they generally do not advertise discount promotions in the same manner as retail businesses. However, prospective clients in Ohio can usually expect certain standard practices when seeking legal counsel for matters such as dissolution or other family law cases.

While no explicit "promotions" are mentioned, it is common for legal firms to offer:

  • Initial Consultations: Many attorneys provide an initial meeting, which may be free or offered at a reduced rate. This allows potential clients to discuss the specifics of their case and determine if the firm's services are the right fit before committing financially. Given the concerns raised in one review about upfront clarity on fees, it would be particularly important for potential clients to use this initial consultation to gain a full understanding of the firm's billing practices.

  • Fee Structure Discussion: A professional and ethical firm should clearly explain their fee arrangements upfront. The negative review highlights issues with transparent communication about maintaining a retainer balance and unauthorized deductions. Therefore, for any Ohio resident considering this firm, it would be crucial to thoroughly review all fine print regarding billing, retainer management, hourly rates, and consent for charges.

For Ohio residents or individuals needing legal assistance in family law, the best course of action is to directly contact Lawrence Law Office. When doing so, it is highly advisable to ask very specific questions about their billing practices, retainer requirements, communication protocols, and how costs will be managed throughout the duration of the case. Gaining complete clarity on these financial and procedural aspects upfront is essential for making an informed decision.

For Ohio residents seeking to connect with Lawrence Law Office, here is the direct contact information:

  • Address: 496 S 3rd St, Columbus, OH 43215, USA

  • Phone: (614) 810-4124

  • Mobile Phone: +1 614-810-4124

When contacting the firm, it is advisable to be prepared to briefly explain the nature of your legal inquiry, particularly if it pertains to dissolution or other family law matters. Given the nature of legal work, appointments are typically required. Calling ahead to schedule a consultation would be the recommended first step to ensure you can discuss your specific situation with the legal team. These contact details provide a direct and convenient way for Ohio locals to reach out and initiate communication.

For locals across Ohio, particularly those in the Columbus area considering legal representation for family law matters such as dissolution, the suitability of Lawrence Law Office presents a complex picture due to highly contrasting client experiences. The firm’s central location at 496 S 3rd St in downtown Columbus offers practical accessibility, which is a convenience for residents seeking local legal services.

On one hand, there is positive feedback highlighting a specific staff member, Carly, as "very helpful, informative, and personable," and someone who "strives to help you as much as you can." This suggests that some interactions with the firm's support staff can be positive and helpful. For those seeking initial guidance or administrative support, this could be a beneficial aspect.

However, the extensive negative review raises very serious concerns that Ohio residents must carefully consider. Allegations of significant lack of financial transparency, including undisclosed retainer requirements and unauthorized deductions from a personal checking account, are particularly alarming. The reported lack of consistent communication from the lead attorney, misleading cost estimates, and charges for basic administrative tasks point to potential issues with professional conduct and client value. The client’s experience of spending a substantial amount of money without achieving their legal objective and being left with more debt underscores a profound dissatisfaction.

In legal matters as sensitive and financially impactful as dissolution, trust, clear communication, and transparent billing are paramount. While the firm is physically accessible, the detailed negative account suggests that potential clients in Ohio should exercise extreme caution. It would be essential for any prospective client to meticulously review all retainer agreements, obtain explicit written consent for all financial transactions, and establish clear expectations regarding attorney-client communication and cost projections before engaging the services of Lawrence Law Office. Without such thorough due diligence, the risks highlighted by the negative review could significantly outweigh the convenience of the firm's location.

I highly recommend Lawrence Law Firm. Linda and Rodd handled my divorce case with professionalism, was dedicated to my case and communicated every step of the way. They had my best interest at hand from day one, highly knowledgeable and always available to answer questions. They worked endless hours to be sure my children and myself were treated fairly and achieved the best possible result. I felt confident throughout the entire process. I’m very thankful that Lawrence Law had my back.

To begin, please believe what you are reading in the reviews. I made the mistake of not following my initial intuition. If possible to give zero stars, I would. I would not recommend Lawrence Law Office to anyone in need of a competent and responsive divorce attorney. My experience was deeply frustrating due to an extreme lack of communication, inconsistent billing practices, and an overall failure to provide proactive legal representation. Despite multiple attempts to reach out, my calls were rarely returned. Meetings never took place in person, and the only service provided was reacting to the opposing party’s filings—never creating or submitting anything on my behalf. Additionally, the firm relied on improper templates rather than crafting case-specific documents. Billing practices were also highly questionable. I was charged $450 per hour, with a minimum 15-minute charge just for reading an email. Given the lack of original work done on my case, these charges felt excessive and unjustified. If you are looking for an attorney who will actively advocate for you, communicate clearly, and provide value for their fees, I strongly suggest seeking representation elsewhere.
