In 2020 I discovered this beautiful rental out in Yonkers and not too far from the Bronx but very close to my parents. Thinking this was a win-win situation I moved in just before the pandemic shut down New York City. Throughout the pandemic I was blessed to still be able to pay my rent on time when when many people had either lost their job or fell behind financially. Coming out of the pandemic I still managed to pay my rent on time even though the landlord / rental company had raised it considerably but I love the area and the close proximity to my family that this was still a winning situation for me. So just as I have done before with previous rent hikes in 2021 and 2022, I sent off the proper payments via money order as I have done many times before to renew my 2023 rental contract. My mother spearheaded this Financial gauntlet by purchasing the money orders, filling them out, and sending them to their proper locations and of course keeping all of the little stubs. Before you get on me for having my mom handle my finances; I will freely admit that I'm a mama's boy and she has close to 30 years of financial experience working for the United States Postal Service covering all of Manhattan. Plus she told me she was going to do it but I digress... Lehrman Lehrman and Guterman apparently received what they needed to renew my rental contract and things went forth as usual.. or at least I thought.. In May of this year we started noticing on the rental slip that they send in your email that they had added charges to my rental amount. When I inquired about the amount that was on the slip I was told by Heidy that my rental amount was $40 more than what I was sending so I adjusted my rent for the next 2 months to cover this $40 difference. That was until my mother pulled out my rental contract and found out that I was paying the proper amount in that Heidi was mistaken. This is where things start to get very Shady. She now claims that we were missing a whole rental payment that led up to the late charges. I asked her if she could have accounting we check those numbers because I have never been late on rent and I pay everything with a US postal money order. Heidi tells me until she can see the copies of those receipts there is no proof that they actually cash those money orders. As I mentioned before my mother was a finance officer.. so you know she kept 3 years worth of money order stubs and we bought the dates that Heidi wanted to the post office and got the receipts for them. This was not cheap but it was very effective... When presented with the copies of the stubs being cashed by her company at her bank she still claimed that there is no proof that they cast that money order for that missing months rent and also she tried to claim that my late fees are now in excess of $650! This is part one return back with part two tomorrow.. thank you for your time
