Dec 17, 2024 · Keisha PittsLast year, I submitted a complicated litigation case around July 2023. I called back for a follow-up & talked to Councilman Mahoney (the co-owner). As I anticipated, Mr. Mahoney had declined my case. He felt my claim has expired past the limited statue. It was his legal opinion & strictly wants to play it safe within the 3 year statue which is understandable. However, his decline to provide me a referral was a disappointment. He proved to me my case just didn't fit his practice & his interest, so I pitched my case to 4 more firms, 3 had declined for logical reasons until the 3rd one referred me to the right firm with a 2nd legal opinion. The 4th firm agreed to take my case because their practice & interest aligned with my situation, The 4th firm confirmed my case remains relevant & provided me many alternatives so we're moving forward. Mr. Mahoney was quite blunt, but polite in a professional manner. I thank him for tolerating my diplomatic plea to reconsider, and politely made it clear his decision was final, I also appreciate his respect for not requesting to keep a copy of my private information, I'm thankful for his blunt honesty, for it was that "It's just my opinion" happy accident of his that encouraged me to keep on pitching for the appropriate litigator specifically trained for a cold case like mine based on my research. I would've given his firm 4 stars if he was willing to give me a referral. Do I recommend this firm? I say give Mills & Mahoney a try, but be prepared to make a list of law firms to call, research their practice, & take any advice you can get despite their decline. If this firm accepts your case, well and good. If not, keep looking for one, for you'll get declined many times. Lawsuits are expensive. Lawyers must determine if it's worth it based on risk factors, for the stakes can be high based on the weight of circumstances. Legality is harsh but that's how the system works. It's imperative that you find a legal team who are very passionate with your case, aligned with your situation based on their specific law practice, & do the bulk of the work for & with them. Remember, you're putting everything on the line with your lawyers if your case is accepted, so be honest & vigilant. I know this is late, I didn't want to make a review on bad terms, just on a good note. I hope this review will give some positive influence to clients struggling to find legal advice. I wish this firm and their clients the best of luck. Godspeed.
