The accessibility of a law firm's office is an important practical consideration for clients. This network of locations further indicates an intent to serve a wide geographic area within Illinois. While their stated services are comprehensive within family law, it is crucial for potential clients to consider the significant concerns raised in public reviews regarding the firm's professionalism and handling of client cases and finances, as detailed in the "Features / Highlights" section.
Based on the provided customer reviews, the features and highlights of Mehta Law Group are overwhelmingly negative and raise serious concerns about their operational practices and client service. These are direct quotes and summaries of the public feedback:
Lack of Professionalism and Unprofessional Conduct: Multiple reviews explicitly state, "This firm is very unprofessional." Specific instances include Sean laughing at a client, telling a client, "you don’t have any money," and hanging up on a client. These actions directly contradict professional legal conduct.
Issues with Retainer Refunds: A former client states, "Sean never refunded me my remainder of my retainer" after discontinuing services due to "lack of professionalism." This highlights a serious concern regarding ethical financial practices and client trust.
Payment and Account Management Irregularities: A client reported that the firm was "taking payments directly from my account and stopped payment," followed by Sean claiming "they must’ve mixed me up," then demanding a "July payment of $500" despite their own payment stoppage. This indicates significant issues with billing and account management.
Lack of Client Representation After Retainer Taken: One review alleges that "he took my retainer fee but never stated that he wouldn’t be representing me." This is an extremely serious accusation of failing to provide agreed-upon services after receiving payment.
Inexperienced Attorney Assignment: A client states they were assigned "an attorney who has only one year of practice on my case which I feel is totally unfair because she hasn’t taken necessary steps to help me in my case because she has very little knowledge." This suggests a potential issue with attorney allocation and the provision of competent representation.
Last-Minute Withdrawal Attempt: The firm sent "an order to withdraw from my case a few days before my trial," causing immense stress and potential detriment to the client's case.
These are critical allegations that prospective clients in Illinois should be fully aware of and investigate thoroughly. The reviews do not provide positive highlights; instead, they focus on severe deficiencies in professionalism, financial handling, and client representation.
Based on available public information, including their website, Mehta Law Group indicates they offer:
Free Initial Consultation: Publicly available information states that they offer "free initial consultation" and encourage prospective clients to "arrange your consultation." This allows individuals to discuss their legal situation without an upfront financial commitment.
While this offer is generally beneficial for individuals seeking legal advice, prospective clients considering a free consultation with Mehta Law Group are strongly advised to approach it with awareness of the significant concerns raised in the public reviews, particularly regarding professionalism, financial practices, and representation. It would be prudent to use this consultation to directly address any concerns derived from the public feedback.

It is important to note that publicly available information also lists other contact numbers for Mehta Law Group, such as (312) 982-8175 and (773) 644-8173, associated with their various Chicago and suburban offices. If you choose to contact this firm, it would be highly advisable to be prepared with specific questions about your case and to directly address any concerns you may have based on the serious allegations present in the public reviews, particularly those related to communication, professionalism, retainer refunds, and the assignment of attorneys.
For residents across Illinois, particularly those in the Chicago metropolitan area, evaluating the suitability of Mehta Law Group requires a significant degree of caution and thorough independent investigation. While their multiple office locations, including 10540 S Western Ave #402 in Chicago, offer physical accessibility and a stated focus on comprehensive family law services, the overwhelming and severe nature of the provided public reviews raises profound concerns about their operational practices and client service.
The reviews explicitly detail a "lack of professionalism," alleged failure to refund retainers, issues with payment management and "mixed up" accounts, last-minute attempts to withdraw from cases just before trial, and the assignment of seemingly "very little knowledge" or inexperienced attorneys. Furthermore, specific instances of unprofessional conduct, such as laughing at clients and making disparaging remarks, are highlighted. These are not minor complaints but significant accusations that directly impact the core trust and competence expected from a legal firm.
While the firm states it offers free consultations and appears to cover a wide range of family law needs, the detailed negative feedback from multiple clients paints a picture that is antithetical to reliable legal representation. For locals in Illinois seeking assistance with highly sensitive matters like divorce or child custody, the potential for unprofessional conduct, financial irregularities, and inadequate representation, as alleged in these reviews, presents a substantial risk. Therefore, despite their local presence and stated service areas, based purely on the provided public reviews, Mehta Law Group cannot be broadly recommended as "suitable" for locals without strong caveats. Any potential client would need to undertake extensive personal vetting, critically question these serious allegations, and proceed with extreme caution before engaging their services.

Aug 09, 2023 · Natasha HinesMade an appointment, was on my way to the appointment, someone from the office called me and asked if I was still attending, told them I was 20 mins away; appointment did not start until 20 mins. When I arrived, no one from the office was picking up, no one was at the office. Very unprofessional to not call back to my calls, I waited about 30 mins going to every flooring 1-5 floors with my daughter looking for the office. Called the office about 6 times. Left a voicemail. This definitely was a waste of my time when I have an important situation to resolve within my business.
Feb 03, 2024 · C MolinaAmazing service! Initiating a divorce can be frightening, frustrating, and emotional. Keeping that in mind the last thing that you need is the lack of support and assistance from your attorney. I’m happy to say that the attorneys at MLG has made this process easy. Things can get rocky when the type of divorce is contested and especially when you live with the spouse. They were communicative, informative and they didn’t let me down. My kudos go to Alexandria for empathizing with me along this process and getting everything that I needed done. Thank you all God Bless
Jul 15, 2023 · Sheena Holmes******* DO NOT USE THEM******* When I first met and hired this law firm I was told that I needed to get the retainer fee in right away so that Sean could start the process and start to make the Allocation for child support, I was also told that I would remain and be the soul decision maker for my daughter and that me and my daughters dad had 30 days after he got served to fill out and send in our financial affidavit or there would be consequences. And that’s what I did I paid and sent in my financial affidavit right away…30 days later my daughters dad never sent his is and no consequences happened. I sent in 5 financial affidavits…for what? None of them were used and I was charged for them. For months I was dealing with Sean and there was a phone call made to discuss my case and about me staying decision maker he told me “what gives you the right to make all the decisions”. There was a day I made an appointment to speak to Sean in person and there was a joke made that “I’m paying for his kids college” which I did not find funny. At my first court date there was another attorney (Colin) who was representing me which I was never informed about him taking over my case. For about 2 to 3 months I was dealing with him and then all of a sudden my emails weren’t going through to him and I wasn’t getting returned phone calls and then I found out that he no longer worked with this law firm and Gary was now on my case. So that is 2 times I was never notified that I was getting someone new on my case. Sean,Colin and Gary all told me that no over night visitation would happen till after my daughter was 2 years of age. Steve got over night and I was then told we’ll there really is no reason for him not to have them. It was impossible to get Gary on the phone and I would always get told “he will call you back” or “send and email and he’ll get back to you”. There was 2 weeks that I was calling to discuss something about my case and never got a phone call back and found out that he was out of town and would be back the morning of our court hearing and then called me 5 minuets before we were supposed to go in for court. In that court hearing we discussed parenting time. Lavel law and Diggs firm both stated that my daughters father has been dropping her off at 7pm on his Wednesday and Gary just sat there and did not speak up and say that I am the one who picks her up from his house. Anytime I would ask when child support would be talked about the response was “I’m not sure, this is a process, it could be another year”. After all this I had to seek out someone new to represent me and when I did the first question I was asked was “how much do you receive in child support” and they were in complete shock that this case has been going on for 15 months and that this wasn’t this first thing talked about. An Allocation for child support was never even made through this law firm and I found out too that I in fact can get back pay for support when MLG told me I couldn’t. The law firm I have now has gotten more done in one court hearing and in one meeting that MLG did in 15 months. I put all of my trust in MLG just to be failed and I have been taken advantage of and was made out to be a fool during court. They also tried to sue me for the remaining balance of what I owed because I refused to pay them after the services I was provided.
