ONE OF THE WORST! I hired Attorney Gary G. Pelletier to assist with my brother's immigration matter, specifically regarding the expungement of his criminal case. Although he is not an immigration attorney, he assured me he could facilitate this process and even coordinate with his immigration attorney colleagues. We agreed on a one-time fee of $5,000, which I promptly paid to retain his services from start to finish. When I suggested to pay 1/2 of the $2500.00 upfront he stated that he didn’t want to chase me around for the other 1/2 when he’s done with the case. My biggest mistake, I paid him in full without a formal contract, as he came highly recommended by a trusted attorney friend from Massachusetts. My experience over the next two years was far from satisfactory. Communication was consistently lacking, and whenever I reached out, the majority of the time it takes Gary months at a time before he replied. I was met with the same excuses about him being busy with criminal cases in upstate New York. After two years of little to no progress and ongoing frustration, I felt compelled to file a complaint with the attorney general. In Gary’s response to the bill he gave an invoice charging me a rate of $500 an hour and spent 9.5 hour working on my brothers case over the last 21/2years which pretty much exhausted the $5k one time fee agreement we made. Now, he is requesting the attorney general to dismiss the complaint. What a joke, my over all experience with Attorney Gary G. Pelletier has been disappointing, and I would caution others to thoroughly research their options before proceeding.

Located in a historic city like Newport, the office building likely offers a classic and established appearance, contributing to an impression of professionalism and gravitas. The features of Pelletier Gary G's legal practice, as illuminated by client reviews, present a complex picture. One client, despite a highly negative experience, acknowledges his initial assurance regarding an immigration matter, highlighting a willingness to take on complex or multi-faceted cases, even if they fall outside his explicit primary specialization. This client's feedback points to significant issues with communication, perceived lack of progress over an extended period (two years), and disputes regarding fees and services rendered. The complaint to the Attorney General and the subsequent dispute over the billing rate and hours spent indicate a disconnect in client-attorney communication and expectations. This highlights the critical importance of clear, formal contracts and consistent communication in legal engagements. The client's cautionary advice to "thoroughly research their options before proceeding" is a direct reflection of their dissatisfaction and serves as a significant point of consideration for potential clients.
Conversely, another client offers a starkly different and overwhelmingly positive perspective, stating, "I don't think I could have found a better Lawyer. He pays attention to every detail and has always gone above and beyond. I would recommend him to family, friends and everyone I come across. Thank you so much Gary, you're amazing at what you do. As I always tell you, you're the goat!" This enthusiastic endorsement highlights several positive features: meticulous attention to detail, a willingness to exceed expectations, and a high level of client satisfaction with the results achieved. The term "goat" (Greatest Of All Time) underscores profound admiration and trust. This contrasting feedback suggests that while some clients may experience challenges, others find Attorney Pelletier to be exceptionally effective and dedicated. His ability to garner such strong praise suggests a lawyer who can achieve favorable outcomes and build strong relationships with clients who feel well-served.
Beyond these individual client experiences, public information reveals that Attorney Pelletier is a highly accomplished criminal defense attorney. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Brown University, his Juris Doctorate from Vanderbilt University Law School, and participated in the LL.M. program at New York University School of Law. His legal career began with clerkships for federal judges, which provided him with valuable insights into judicial processes. He has practiced law for over 25 years and has received accolades such as "Lawyer of the Year" by Rhode Island Lawyers Weekly. These credentials and recognitions further underscore his professional capabilities and standing within the legal community. He has achieved not guilty verdicts in high-profile and complex cases, including those involving manslaughter, sexual assault, and international smuggling. His extensive appellate experience further demonstrates his ability to pursue legal remedies beyond trial verdicts. These features, combined with his broad experience across multiple states, suggest a legal professional with a comprehensive understanding of the justice system and a formidable presence in the courtroom.
In terms of promotional information for local users searching within the "Lawyers Near Me" category, Pelletier Gary G would leverage his significant experience and impressive track record in criminal defense and appellate matters. His designation as a "Super Lawyer" is a powerful promotional tool, indicating peer recognition of his legal skills. The ability to handle a wide range of criminal cases, from DUIs to murder, and his success in achieving "not guilty" verdicts and conviction reversals, are compelling selling points for potential clients facing severe charges. While the negative review points to areas of concern, the positive review emphasizes his dedication and exceptional performance, which would be highlighted in any promotional material. The firm would likely emphasize its commitment to fighting for clients' rights, providing thorough legal analysis, and its extensive experience in courtroom litigation and appellate advocacy. The location in Newport and the direct contact numbers (401) 849-4400) would be promoted for local accessibility. Ultimately, for those in Newport and surrounding areas in need of a robust criminal defense or appellate attorney, Pelletier Gary G's demonstrated expertise in navigating complex legal challenges would be a key aspect of their appeal, despite the varied client experiences.
