My experience with South Atlanta Family law has been terrible and at times unprofessional. My case took a year to see a judge and that was tied to the office not submitting a request to the court house. I consistently had to reach out for information on my case and reminding the team to move forward with actions that were needed. My agreement stated I need a balance soft one amount to go toward court proceedings and that number changed verbally, but not in the written agreement. After the lawyer on my case changed, I saw some movement. After I went to the court and asked why a form hadn't been submitted, a new paralegal was able to submit and get a court date. The lawyer missed that court date due to health reasons. After missing that date, a new date was submitted and the office told me I needed to pay them some more money. In the end, I refused to pay more money for a case that had yet to see a judge. My retainer initially paid was $7,500. How that was used up and never went before a judge with the firm is still baffling to me. They were removed from my case and provided all the files they worked on for the case. A heads up, when i was going to fire them earlier in the case, I was told my balance was not refundable, even though no outcomes were made from my case and the balance was above the required amount within the contract. I would not recommend. I will be filing my complaints also with the Barr.

Today, we examine South Atlanta Family Law Firm, situated at 245 Village Center Pkwy #130, Stockbridge, GA 30281, USA. Located in a commercial area of Stockbridge, the firm likely operates within a standard office environment for legal consultations and case management. As the name suggests, their primary focus appears to be family law, catering to individuals and families in the South Atlanta region facing various domestic legal issues.
It is crucial to note that the available customer reviews for South Atlanta Family Law Firm present overwhelmingly negative experiences. These detailed accounts raise significant concerns about the firm's professionalism, communication, case management, and billing practices. Potential clients should carefully consider this feedback when evaluating their options for legal representation.
One client describes their experience as "terrible and at times unprofessional." This review highlights several critical issues, including a significant delay in their case progressing to a judge, allegedly due to the office failing to submit necessary paperwork to the courthouse. The client reports consistently having to initiate contact for updates and remind the firm of required actions. Furthermore, there were discrepancies regarding fees, with verbal changes to agreed-upon amounts that were not reflected in the written contract. The client also experienced a change in their assigned lawyer and only saw movement in their case after this transition. After personally inquiring at the court about a missing form, a new paralegal was able to submit it and secure a court date. However, the assigned lawyer then missed this court date due to health reasons. Following this missed appearance, the client was asked to pay additional fees despite the case not having gone before a judge. Ultimately, the client refused to pay more, baffled by how their initial retainer of $7,500 was depleted without any judicial proceedings. The firm was subsequently removed from the case, and the client received their file. The review also mentions being informed that the remaining balance was non-refundable, even though no outcomes were achieved and the balance exceeded the contracted amount. The client explicitly states they "would not recommend" the firm and intends to file complaints with the Bar.
Another client expresses an even stronger negative sentiment, wishing they could give the firm "negative stars." Their experience with South Atlanta Law, specifically naming a paralegal (Tamika), the office manager (Denise), and Attorneys Ronica Scales and Alfred, is described as a "nightmare." This client initially had positive interactions with Michelle Cadet and Lisa, for whom they provide the sole star in their review. However, their experience deteriorated significantly afterward. They were assigned Attorney Ronica Scales but never spoke to her in person. Communication is described as "severely lacking," with contact from the firm primarily limited to reminders about outstanding balances.
This second review details a process characterized by unprofessionalism and disorganization. The client had to independently locate their spouse for service. A billing error involving a double charge for a service locator was identified, and while the paralegal eventually acknowledged the firm's mistake after an investigation, the client felt they were "paying for the incompetence of the firm." Despite these errors, the firm allegedly insisted on adhering to a non-refundable clause in a document signed on the first day, which the client felt allowed the firm to exploit their vulnerable situation. Having paid $6,000, the client never went to court or mediation. They report signing documents stating no refunds would be issued, which felt exploitative. Interactions with attorneys were minimal, with only a brief conversation with Attorney Burroughs. By the time they connected with him, the client and their spouse had reconciled, rendering the case moot.
The client also describes a constant turnover of attorneys without notification, starting with Attorney Ronica Scales, then Attorney Alfred, and finally Attorney Burroughs, which added to their frustration and required them to repeatedly seek updates on their case. The named paralegal, Tamika, was frequently unavailable, causing further delays. The client notes the lack of basic courtesy, such as proactive updates. After eleven months of inaction, the client feels "taken advantage of and ignored" and intends to file a complaint with the bar. They strongly advise others needing legal assistance to "steer clear of South Atlanta Law," stating that the firm does not provide the deserved support or service during difficult times.
Based on these two detailed and highly critical reviews, several significant concerns arise regarding South Atlanta Family Law Firm:
Given the overwhelmingly negative nature of the available feedback, it is impossible to identify any positive features or promotional aspects of South Atlanta Family Law Firm based solely on this information. The experiences shared by these clients serve as a strong caution for potential clients.
For local users in Stockbridge, Georgia, searching for "Lawyers Near Me" and encountering South Atlanta Family Law Firm, it is imperative to carefully consider the serious concerns raised in these reviews. While the firm's focus is family law, the reported issues with communication, case handling, and billing should give potential clients pause and prompt thorough due diligence before engaging their services.
In conclusion, the available online reviews paint a concerning picture of South Atlanta Family Law Firm. Allegations of unprofessionalism, poor communication, case mismanagement, and questionable billing practices are significant red flags. Apr 09, 2025 · Ronald BrownI wish I could give this law firm negative stars. My experience with South Atlanta Law, specifically with Tamika (the paralegal), Denise (the office manager), Attorney Ronica Scales, and Attorney Alfred, has been nothing short of a nightmare. I began my case on January 21, 2024, and initially spoke with Michelle Cadet and Lisa, who were both very pleasant and gave me a glimmer of hope that I had chosen a trustworthy law office. However, that was the last positive experience I had. I am only giving this practice one star for Michelle and Lisa because they were the nicest members of the staff. I was assigned Attorney Ronica Scales, whom I never spoke to in person. Communication was severely lacking; the only time I heard from the firm was when they were reminding me of outstanding balances. The entire process felt unprofessional and disorganized. I had to conduct my own search to locate my husband for service, and when I identified a billing discrepancy involving a double charge for their service locator, the paralegal engaged in a lengthy back-and-forth with me. After conducting her own investigation, she ultimately acknowledged that the firm was in the wrong. This experience highlighted that I was essentially paying for the incompetence of the firm. Despite their errors, they insisted on holding me accountable to a document I was required to sign on my first day, which effectively allowed them to take advantage of my situation without any accountability for their mistakes. If my husband and I hadn't reconciled, I fear they would have drained my finances completely. Despite paying $6,000, I never made it to court or mediation. They had me sign documents stating there would be no refunds, which felt like a blatant exploitation of my vulnerable situation. I had very limited interaction with the attorneys; aside from a brief conversation with Attorney Burroughs, I never spoke to any of the others. By the time I did connect with Burroughs, my husband and I had already reconciled, rendering my case moot. The constant switching of attorneys without notification—starting with Attorney Ronica Scales, then moving to Attorney Alfred, and finally Attorney Burroughs—only added to my frustration. I had to repeatedly reach out to find out what was happening with my case. Tamika, the paralegal, was often unavailable due to vacations or illness, and when she was out, nothing moved forward. A simple courtesy call would have made a world of difference, but that level of care was clearly lacking. After 11 months of inaction, I am left feeling taken advantage of and ignored. I will also be filing a complaint with the bar regarding the non-service I experienced with this firm. I strongly advise anyone in need of legal assistance to steer clear of South Atlanta Law. They do not provide the support or service you deserve, especially during difficult times.
Jan 09, 2025 · Neshah MichelleGreat experience with the whole team, especially Attorney Burroughs. The whole process put me at ease during an extremely painful and stressful time in my life. They walked me through every step and explained everything in simple terms so I knew exactly what was going on at all times. No one wants to ever be in a position where they need a divorce lawyer but I’m glad South Atlanta Family Law was here for me! I would recommend them to anyone in the area.
Jan 10, 2025 · Anna EadesIn response to your ridiculous response, It's disappointing to see that my reconciliation with my husband has been cited as the reason for my request for a refund. My concerns regarding the lack of service were communicated consistently throughout the process, and I have recorded proof of my requests. Additionally, I have witnesses who were present during my calls and are willing to testify on my behalf. I urge you to review your own records, as they will corroborate my claims. I have taken a screenshot of your unprofessional response and I will involve the bar to ensure that this matter is addressed appropriately. I have EVERY right to tell my story so others don’t go through what I went through. My concerns about the lack of service and communication were raised well before the reconciliation and It’s disheartening to see that others have echoed similar sentiments regarding the firm’s conduct. This isn’t just my experience; it’s a pattern that has been noted by several clients. I stand by my original statements and hope that the firm takes this feedback seriously to improve their practices. Additionally, while I appreciate the gesture, I found it inappropriate for a paralegal to invite me to her church during this process. I guess you will deny that as well.
