If I could give negative stars I would. Everything was completely misrepresented. The attorney they referred me to cost me everything! I lost my home, I lost my car. I have nothing! This case has dragged on for over 5 years. They allowed my ex husband to make a back door deal with the backruptcy court that was completely unfair. He didn’t hold up his end of the deal and they are still allowing him to keep everything. My attorney made it look like I would get nearly $200k from the proceeds of the sale of my house after the debt was paid. Instead I didn’t get a dime. My ex husband got to keep the house. I would have been in the same position if I never hired upright law. It was a wast of the money I paid.

UpRight Law Introduce

UpRight Law, a firm operating within the "Lawyers Near Me" category, aims to connect individuals with legal assistance for various consumer debt and bankruptcy-related issues. Located at 1131 W 6th St #101, Ontario, CA 91762, USA, UpRight Law emphasizes accessibility, utilizing a national network of attorneys. The firm can be reached at (877) 927-5451 or via mobile at +1 877-927-5451.

The physical environment of UpRight Law's Ontario location, being an office suite, is generally expected to provide a professional setting. However, it's important to note that UpRight Law's business model heavily relies on a "legal tech" approach, often involving initial consultations and case management conducted remotely through online platforms and phone calls. This means that while a physical address exists, the primary interaction for many clients may not be within a traditional brick-and-mortar law office setting, but rather through their online portal or via phone with non-attorney staff or remote "partner" attorneys. This model aims to expand access to legal services, particularly for those struggling with debt, by potentially making the process more convenient and less intimidating than a conventional law office visit.

UpRight Law primarily focuses on legal services related to consumer debt relief and bankruptcy. Their stated mission is to assist consumers struggling with financial burdens. The services typically offered by UpRight Law, as found through online information, include:

  • Consumer Bankruptcy Services: This is a core area of their practice, assisting clients with Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy filings. The goal is to help individuals eliminate or reorganize debt, address issues like foreclosure, wage garnishment, and medical bills.

  • Debt Relief Services: Beyond formal bankruptcy, UpRight Law may offer services related to credit card debt, medical debt, and other forms of consumer debt. This could involve negotiations with creditors or other strategies to manage or reduce outstanding debts.

  • Foreclosure and Wage Garnishment Assistance: For clients facing these pressing financial issues, UpRight Law aims to provide legal guidance and intervention to protect assets and income.

It's important for potential clients to understand that UpRight Law operates on a unique business model. They are often described as a "national law firm" or "legal tech company" that uses a network of local "partner" attorneys across different states. The initial intake and case management are frequently handled by non-attorney staff in a central office, who then connect clients with local attorneys for specific court appearances or detailed legal advice. This model is designed to reach a broad client base and streamline processes, but it has also been a subject of discussion and scrutiny by legal ethics boards and courts.

Regarding features, UpRight Law promotes its use of "cutting-edge technology" and 24/7 online access to legal services. This aims to provide convenience for clients to access information about their case status and communicate with the firm. The firm often handles initial client inquiries through online forms or phone calls, with a focus on high-volume consumer legal needs, particularly bankruptcy. Their model intends to make legal assistance more approachable and less intimidating for individuals who might otherwise struggle to find or afford legal representation. They aim to leverage technology to bridge the gap between clients and attorneys, particularly in underserved legal markets.

However, an objective introduction must also address the feedback and concerns raised by past clients and legal authorities. Promotional information from UpRight Law generally highlights ease of access and solutions for debt problems. Nevertheless, publicly available reviews from real customers present a different perspective, often citing significant issues. For example, a customer reported a devastating outcome in a bankruptcy case that "dragged on for over 5 years," leading to the loss of their home and car, despite being led to believe they would receive a substantial sum. This client expressed that hiring UpRight Law was a "waste of the money I paid." Another review highlighted a "stressful" experience with an "aggressive and rude" phone representative who made them feel "uncomfortable at all to even do business with them," resulting in a lost customer.

Beyond individual client experiences, public records and legal news sources indicate that UpRight Law, or its parent entity, has faced considerable scrutiny and sanctions from various U.S. Trustee Programs and bankruptcy courts across the country. These concerns often revolve around the firm's business practices, including allegations of:

  • Unauthorized Practice of Law: Non-attorney staff allegedly providing legal advice.

  • Misrepresentation of Services: Clients being misled about the nature of the services or the involvement of local attorneys.

  • Delay in Filings: Significant delays in filing bankruptcy cases after fees were collected, sometimes leading to wage garnishments or other adverse outcomes for clients.

  • Fee Collection Practices: Issues with payment plans and retention of fees even when cases were not filed or mishandled.

  • "Scam" Schemes: Involvement in controversial schemes, such as advising debtors to surrender vehicles to a towing company in exchange for legal fees, which some courts have described as a "scam from the start."

The U.S. Department of Justice's U.S. Trustee Program has reached settlements with UpRight Law, involving substantial monetary relief (hundreds of thousands of dollars) returned to consumers and practice bans in several jurisdictions. These actions indicate a history of significant ethical and professional concerns regarding the firm's operations and the quality of legal representation provided. Some reports also mention an "F" rating from the Better Business Bureau for failure to respond to complaints, and that mail sent to the business has been returned as undeliverable, suggesting potential operational instability or issues with client communication.

While UpRight Law aims to be a solution for those seeking "Lawyers Near Me" for debt relief, potential clients should be aware of the documented challenges and negative feedback associated with its operational model and past performance. It is always advisable for individuals seeking legal services to conduct thorough due diligence, including researching independent reviews, checking with state bar associations, and understanding the fee structure and the specific attorney who will be handling their case. Given the information available, prospective clients considering UpRight Law are strongly encouraged to proceed with caution and seek independent legal advice if they have concerns.

I have been stressed dealing with my disability and even having to think about doing a bankruptcy. I finally decided it may be the best option and submitted my info to this company. The guy on the phone Terrence was so aggressive and rude. He did not make me feel comfortable at all to even do business with them. Lost a customer here.

Very unprofessional, very aggressive and quoted me a ridiculous price of $2400 and couldn't even tell me why he was charging so much. He told me the wage garnishment wouldn't stop until I paid that amount up front. Not for me at all.

I don’t know how they got my number, but now that they have it they keep texting me, calling and leaving voice messages. 1 message every hour. It’s ridiculous.
